I teach physical education to students in grades 1-5. A majority of our students qualify for free lunches. They could offer many excuses as to why they shouldn't do well in school but that doesn't happen. They are wonderful children. They excel in many areas. Our school outperforms many other schools in standardized testing year after year. But I would like to see every single one of my students lead a healthy life. Right now, there are some students who are overweight for their age. I stress the importance of making good nutritional choices and how that will effect your heart health later in life. Their health is what is important.
