  • Peer Support Stations

    Funded Apr 25, 2025

Thank you so much for your contribution to this project! You have helped provide the materials needed so that students can help each other through tutoring, motivation and social-emotion support, and needed supplies. Students will earn service learning hours that are required for graduation by helping their peers.

    Thank you for your kindness!”

  • Mining for Minerals

    Funded Jul 30, 2024

Thank you so much for your generous support of this project! We were able to complete the entire activity, and the students absolutely loved it. The materials you helped provide—like the wax, melter, trays, and other supplies—made it possible for students to create realistic landform casts and simulate the mining process in a hands-on, engaging way. It was so exciting to watch them analyze maps, take core samples, and work together to locate mineral deposits. The whole experience really brought the topic to life and made learning so much more meaningful.

Thanks to your donation, my students not only deepened their understanding of mining and environmental science, but also developed critical thinking, teamwork, and financial literacy skills. They had to balance economic decisions with environmental impact, and many of them said this was one of their favorite projects of the year. I'm so grateful for your support—you helped make this memorable learning experience possible!”

  • Caring About the Environment

    Funded Aug 15, 2024

Thank you so much for your support of our environmental science activities and labs. With your help, we were able to use three engaging kits that brought environmental science to life in a hands-on way. Students simulated the effects of smog on plants, tracked the stages of ecological succession, and explored sustainable farming techniques right in the classroom. These weren't just experiments—they were full-on explorations, with students asking thoughtful questions, making predictions, and engaging in hands-on learning.

More than just learning content, students connected with the material on a personal level. They worked together, problem-solved, and began to see how science plays out in the real world and in their community. These activities sparked a new interest and sense of purpose for many of my students.

Your contribution made it possible, and we're truly grateful.”

  • Diagnosis: Murder?

    Funded Nov 14, 2024

Thank you for providing my students with the incredible opportunity to step into the role of medical examiners through this forensic autopsy project. Every year, my students ask if they are dissecting. They were so excited for this hands-on learning opportunity. More than just a dissection, this investigation allowed them to analyze a real-world forensic case, examine preserved specimens with distinct trauma scenarios, and apply professional forensic techniques to determine causes of death. The experience not only deepened their understanding of human anatomy and forensic pathology but also fostered critical thinking and problem-solving skills essential to the field.

Beyond the autopsy, my students enjoyed playing the roles of forensic scientists, meticulously analyzing fingerprint evidence, blood spatter, toxicology reports, and other key pieces of evidence related to their case. This approach gave them an authentic experience in forensic investigation, reinforcing their interest in STEM careers such as medicine, law enforcement, and forensic science. Your support in making this project possible has had a lasting impact on their education and aspirations. We truly appreciate the opportunity to bring forensic science to life in such an engaging and meaningful way!”

  • Crime Scene Reconstruction

    Funded Jan 2, 2025

Thank you so much for helping make our forensic science crime scene project a huge success! My students had an absolute blast creating their own crime scenes using the materials we had—Barbie dolls, LEGOs, popsicle sticks, tacky glue, and even some Dungeons and Dragons terrain. They wrote out scenarios with victim profiles, motives, suspects, evidence, and test results, then built amazing reconstructions. It was so rewarding to see their creativity shine! When given the option of a traditional final or processing another group's crime scene, almost everyone chose to dive into investigating. We were able to move into a larger space so students could have their own scenes and scenarios to analyze.

This project was a perfect mix of fun and learning, with students strengthening their critical thinking, teamwork, and problem-solving skills while putting their forensic science knowledge to the test to create their scenes and scenarios, and then investigate another group's. The variety of materials really helped make the activity accessible to everyone and allowed them to focus on the science behind their work. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to bring this project to life—it's one they won't forget!”

My students come from all areas of Baltimore City. Nearly all of my students qualify for free and reduced lunches. My students come to school everyday and they thrive on hands-on activities! You can see their engagement and excitement with art projects, laboratory investigations, online learning, and hands on activities! My students always ask if they will be dissecting anything in my class; this year, I hope to tell them "yes!" Dissection is an engaging and authentic experience that my students are rarely able to do. Incorporating art and technology with other hands on activities and labs will allow my students to make real connections to what they are learning and perhaps inspire them to enter a career in science.
