Because I teach in a Title I high-poverty school, students cannot afford to contribute to the art supplies in the classroom. My school is a STEAM school, therefor we integrate the arts into all subjects. This not only makes learning more connected, but also creates excitement and engagement in the classroom. High engagement is the key to success in Ancient history because it is such an abstract concept to students who live in poverty. Integration of the arts through project-based learning increases engagement through collaboration and creation. Smiles abound with such teamwork and creatively, making the classroom a more productive place to be. The markers, colored paper, and colored pencils I am requesting will help do just that.
