Tech Savvy Chromebooks for Tech Savvy Kids
Funded Dec 3, 2015The gift you have given our classroom in the form of chromebooks has had an amazing impact on our classroom.
When I told the students that we had been given chromebooks, we were sitting in a circle guessing what our "new center" could be. No one guessed chromebook laptops, so I revealed what it was and everyone jumped up and cheered. It was one of the most amazing moments of this year. We have set up a chromebook center rotation and use the chromebooks in our centers everyday. We don't only use them there though, but also to write and create music.
And the impact goes further than that, two of my students who struggle with the pace and rigor of the curriculum have worked with chromebooks each time they come to music on their personalized worklist. They are intrigued and active when working with the chromebook instead of being disengaged and overcome by concepts which are difficult for them.
The chromebooks that you have provided us with will be used for years to come, engaging and exiting students about learning. Thank you for giving the gift of intrigue, education, and technology. We greatly appreciate your love and support.”

Funded May 7, 2015Thank you all for your generous donations to this Outdoor Harmony Garden project. We are still in the early stages of development for our garden, but these tubano drums were the first leap of many in ensuring that this garden will impact all of my students to come. We are looking forward to a ground-breaking ceremony in April of this year, and we hope to enjoy the fruits of our labor in the Fall of 2016.
With these tubano drums, our students are already thrilled and excited about what the future holds for their school, and I cannot wait for the chance and opportunity to reach students in a whole new classroom environment. I am certain that when these drums will be a show piece for everyone at Skyview to perform and make beautiful harmonies in the outdoor communal space.”

iPads: Music in Our Hands Part 2
Funded Oct 27, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donations. The impact that your donation has made has been tremendous on meeting the needs of all of my students. As a music teacher, I have been able to incorporate the iPad technology into my instruction from Kindergarten all the way to Sixth grade students. These students are thrilled to be able to use the iPads in their music class. If my students could write to you right now, they would say "Thank you so much for giving us these gifts."
My students are using these resources everyday when they come to music class. They have music games that they can play after finishing their lesson. We have also downloaded many instrument apps that makes it easier for our students with special needs to be a part of the music classroom with a virtual instrument. Students are also using the garageband technology to write and produce their own songs.
As a result of your donation, my students are even more engaged in the learning process that happens in our music classroom. I have been nominated for a district reward in using technology, and as a result my students are reaping the rewards of having quality technology in their classroom. Thanks so much for your support.”

Funded Jun 15, 2014From the first day that my students walked in, my younger students saw the new smaller drums and were immediately drawn to them. They were so excited and they felt like they actually had authentic drums that were made for their smaller size. The students said things like "I can't believe they make them this small," "When do we get to do drumming like the bigger kids," and "we love music and drumming even more now!!!"
We are going to use these drums primarily for our younger students in kindergarten-third grade. I want to use these drums to implement drumming games and drumming circles so that our students at all ages can experience the community of learning that comes from being a part of a drum circle. Not only do our younger students experience this group learning, but we will be able to mainstream more of our special education students who simply need a smaller drum in order to be able to play with the group.
My teaching has been boosted by training my younger students in the rhythmical techniques that go into drumming. As a result of these smaller drums, our students can now show what they know without having the hassle of playing a drum that is simply too big for them. Thanks for your generous support of my students.”

Funded Nov 2, 2013Upon receiving the recorders, our fourth graders were so excited to get to make a sound on their new wind instruments. I will admit the first time that they made a sound on their recorders they said how much they hated how it sounded. They quickly learned that the instrument was a delicate and therefore they had to play the instrument correctly for it to sound good. After a few weeks of playing their recorders, the students were saying how they were already pros at it and they were ready to move onto the next instrument (I of course laughed).
We are practicing with our recorders every day, and the students are learning how to play and care for the instrument. We are also using the instruments to scientifically analyze how instruments make the sound that they do. By having a class set of recorders, the students are learning about responsibility and how to share a communal item. They are learning that everyone must come together to make one good sound so that the sound is peaceful.
Our students are more engaged when it comes to learning about the different instruments. This project has boosted my teaching because my students excitement for playing real instruments has increased because everyone now has a chance to participate.”

iPads: Music in Our Hands
Funded Oct 1, 2013The first thing that my students would like to say is "Thank you!!!!" They love their new iPads and all of the music apps that they get to use in class now. The students say that music is more exciting now because they can make the music with their fingers. The students are using the iPads as instruments and as a compositional device to create their own compositions. With the iPads we have now, our learning has been enhanced. We are now using more higher level learning skills such as creation to emphasize the concepts that we are teaching. More importantly the kids feel a sense of ownership over their learning. Thank you so much for your generous donations!!!”
