Get Them Moving, Keep Them Learning!
Funded Aug 5, 2017It has been an exciting few days in my classroom! On Friday, we were able to open the boxes with this standing desks and begin assembling them. Almost all the students in my homeroom helped in some way: some worked on reading and interpreting the instructions, some kept track of the hardware that they would need, and one student was in charge of taking photographs with my phone. There were even a few students who enjoyed "playing" with the cardboard boxes (remember, they are still 7th graders who love to play).!
They finished assembling the desks the next school day and then we needed to decide on some expectations for using the new additions to our classroom. They decided that it would best if each day, students' names are drawn randomly for the opportunity to use the desks. Two students even volunteered to write the names of all of my students (95+ students) on craft sticks to facilitate the name-drawing!
I have already noticed positive things coming from your contribution to our classroom. The collaboration of the students working on assembling the desks and the conversations we've had about taking care of them would make you proud! When students come to class, they are excited to have the opportunity to use the new seating options.
When I told the students the story of how I was able to get the desks and wobbly stools for our classroom, they were surprised that people who they don't even know cared enough to donate to this project. Thank you for your donation and making a difference for my students!!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Schmidt
Create It! Share It! Learn It!
Funded Oct 7, 2016Thank you again for your generous donations that allowed a document camera to be purchased for my classroom. My students love sharing their work with and learning from each other!
The "Ladybug" document camera is a great addition to my classroom. In the photos, it is the red object that looks like a ladybug. It is connected to my computer, which is also connected to my interactive whiteboard. This allows students to place their work paper under the document camera and then their work is projected onto the interactive whiteboard. In the photos, students are sharing the diagrams they had drawn to model the addition and subtraction of integers.
I also use the document camera to show manipulatives on the interactive white board to model solving linear equations. Students love to come to my desk to share their thinking with their peers. This is also an important piece of understanding mathematics--communicating using precise language.
I'm still learning to integrate this technology in my classroom and I'm excited to keep learning right along with my students!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Schmidt
