Saving Our Planet From the Ground UP is an opportunity for students to nurture an "Eco-column" in order to see it survive and thrive. Students will investigate the positive and negative effects their actions have upon ecosystems. These eco-columns consist of an aquarium habitat on the bottom section, a terrarium habitat on the top section including both abiotic and biotic elements. We will investigate real life examples of pollution. We will analyze the effect these conditions have on our ecosystems. Our children are our future; they are the future of our planet. The snails, fish, and aquatic plants provided in this donation will allow us to examine the environmental impact of humans. We will also conduct experiments where they engineer ways to remove an oil spill from a body of water. This will allow my students to face a real world problem that will occur within their life time...What can they do to help? We will look at a positive way they can impact their world by creating class soda bottle composts. This will allow them a personal experience of how easily they can leave a positive footprint.
