In kindergarten, the rug is the most important area in the room. It's the place where students learn academics, but more importantly it's the place where they interact with their peers. Children need an opportunity to practice academic and social skills in a comfortable space that promotes communal and face-to-face interactions. By donating to this project, you will provide a space for 5 year-olds to develop academically and socially. Most of the social/emotional learning in kindergarten happens through in-the-moment peer interactions. Many of these "life lessons" are taught, discussed, and addressed on the rug. Our rug was discarded over the summer due to its age. It had been well used and well loved. Unfortunately, the school was unable to provide new rugs for every classroom. We received plastic "sit spots" to replace the rug. They're great for portability, but they do not give the same feeling of warmth and community as a rug. We have our fingers (and legs) crossed with the hopes of getting our FIRST project funded! Thank you!
