The use of iPads and Picture Communication Systems is a daily activity in my classroom. Using the iPad will allow me to model in communication, students will use the device for guided practice. The iPad will allow me to see exactly what their communication needs are, as well as provide an easy way for them to communicate to me when they are unable to speak. What becomes a problem is students do not remember their devices from home. When this happens, I am unable to continue working on their IEP goals of using a communication device. Having a colored printer will allow me to print out pictures that match their device to continue working on communication skills . By having an iPad to keep at school, students will be able to avoid problems communicating and focus on increasing their learning! Using an iPad and pictures for communicating assists in working on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP). Many students were unable to continue mastery during the Covid-19 Pandemic shutdown. they lost a year of learning. As part of preparing students for the Alternative Diploma Standard AD.6.2, students use digital tools for expressive and functional communication.
