My students are mainly immigrants from Africa, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic. Many of their parents do not speak English and find it difficult to understand and help them with their work. They are well behaved children who are eager to learn but because of their parents' lack of education, are already at a disadvantage. I teach at NYC public school and funding is minimal at best. Due to such things as poverty, lack of parental education, English being a second language and bouncing from one school to another, a lot of them have fallen behind. I want to try and help them by utilizing technology, not only to give them basic computer know how but to use language, math, and phonics programs to help close their gaps.
