  • Best Books With Our Favorite Author

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

My students were very excited to get their books. Each child in my class recieved a book to take home with them to continue their love of reading books by Mo Willems at home.

Students were cheering with joy as they recieved their books. They truely loved them. I was able to create an at home assignment where students chose one of the stories from the book and told about it by writing and drawing a picture of their favorite part of the story.

We will be able to continue to share the joy with future classes as students in the future will have a copy of the same book to read in the years to come.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

  • Fuel for the Future

    Funded Aug 16, 2023

Thank you for your generous donations. My students have been able to have snacks daily in the classroom to help them get through the day. My students have had opportunities to enjoy snacks not only to keep their bellies fully, but we also used them to explore our sense during our 5 senses unit.

Students were given snacks and used their sense of sight, touch, and smell to examine the food before they tasted the snacks. They then drew pictures and used words to describe the taste such as sweet, salty, and sour.

As we continue this school year, students have an abundance of snacks that are going to last us throughout the year. Thank you for putting my students needs first.”

  • Full Bellies Full Minds

    Funded Sep 20, 2022

What a difference a snack makes! My students have had snacks daily thanks to you. These snacks provide just enough to hold them over until they get home or to their afterschool program.

We have an early start time, so students eat breakfast from 7:25-7:45. They have lunch at 10:30-11:00. Which can make the afternoon long if they don't have time for a snack. Fortunately for us, we have been gifted with snacks to allow our students to end the day with a belly that isn't hungry! This gives them more time to focus on instruction and less time to focus on being hungry!”

  • Mastery Makes Readers

    Funded May 25, 2022

My students have had approximately 75 days of school. In those 75 days, we have learned numerous letter sounds in order to be able to read words that have those sounds in them. For students that need additional time working with a specific sound, I can now pull out one of many worksheets that have activities related to that sound, and have the student either complete it independently, with me in a small group or one on one, or even send it home with them to get support with their family at home. These worksheets are highly engaging and directly correlate to our direct instruction curriculum.

The activities on the worksheets include coloring, matching, tracing, cut and paste, re-arranging letters, writing(copying), and even sounding out words.

They have been a valuable resource in our classroom to support every one of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

  • Practice Practice Practice Equals Perfect

    Funded Apr 24, 2022

My students are using the funds received for teachers pay teachers daily by completing supplemental worksheets that align to our direct instruction reading curriculum.

Students get the worksheets during their independent work time if they finish their workbook pages, there are papers waiting on the shelf for them that match up to the lesson they worked on that day. They also are receiving homework now that correlates to the skills the lessons they do in reading teach. Additionally, extra practice worksheets are sent home to provide additional support on skills covered in the curriculum that their either missed due to being absent or need additional support with.

My students enjoy these worksheets, they have a variety of activities on them and have fun and engaging pictures to color to show understanding of their reading skills.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Williams

  • Teaching Table Tops High and Low

    Funded Mar 20, 2022

My students are using our low tables and chairs to have alternative seating when doing class work or work book pages and also when they are on tablets in our classroom.

When they first saw the tables and chairs they were excited to use them and we had to work on our sharing skills so that people who wanted a turn could have it.

Next steps for my students right now is reading and writing sentences. We have been working on writing sentences by writing sounds we hear whole group, but we are going to begin writing sounds on our own very shortly!”

    Funded Jul 12, 2022

  • Cooking With Food in K

    Funded Mar 18, 2022

My students were so excited to receive the new food! They are busy making pizzas, tacos, ravioli, sushi and salads among other things.

They were very excited to explore the different cuisines as played. The opportunity to use our new materials were the highlight of all of our day! With cloudy weather this week. Having new play materials was a welcome surprise to our inside recess.

My students eagerly took turns being the customer and the cook. By using a menu and recipe cards, students are sequencing how to make various meals from many different cultures.”

  • Indoor Recess Pretend Play in K.

    Funded Feb 10, 2022

Our classroom has been a busy place in the last few weeks. After receiving the materials (and there were a ton of boxes) my students waited patiently for 2 days as the centers were put together. They excitedly went to their centers and began playing immediately. I showed them many of the neat features that the centers have hiding. My students were excited to use the wallets filled with credit cards, savings cards, coins and cash to spend at the various centers. I help preserve the cash by laminating it. This will hopefully help it hold up better during its use.

The students are quickly becoming experts at imagination as they work together to play. This has lead to multiple learning opportunities about how to take turns while playing and sharing. As students continue to play, I am hoping to build more problem solving into the centers and allow them to build their capacity to solve the problems that will inevitably arise with less adult support. The conflicts that come are good because of the valuable real world problem solving that they will gain. We have spent a lot of time talking about the value of influential African Americans in our past using their words to resolve issues. By connecting their play to inspirational people, I am hoping to create the ideas that they also can rise to that level by using their words.

What next? Big Plans! We will be using the centers to create more guided play. This means using writing purposely in the centers. Making lists or notes while they play will allow them to practice writing sounds they hear and give me a chance to reinforce their growth by interacting with them and reading what they write. This could be as simple as writing down the food on a list while playing, showing me their list and me reading the list back to them to show that their writing has meaning. They also will be practicing with the money. Adding up costs of products, counting money to pay for them and subtracting to give change will be happening in the near future!”
