A Great Take Off!
Funded Sep 20, 2015Indeed, it has been a great "Take Off." Thanks to people like you, my students are able to learn and understand curriculum so much better. We used the number lines for math, matter books for our engineering unit in matter and caddies to organize and share out classroom supplies.
Learning how to add and subtract using the colorful number lines was fun for all my students. The students that were struggling with missing addends found it more comprehensive when using the number lines. Thanks to this, students were able to create their own number line and use it as tool whenever they need.
As mentioned before, school for most of our students is the only place that requires them to have structure and sharing time. The caddies and magnetic boxes have helped the class stay in order, which in return it helps my children feel successful and happy about turning their class into their ideal place. My goal is to help students see that they can maintain their life and strive for order.
Engineering for students in general is very hard. For our students it's even harder. We had to find a problem to solve, which is what engineers do. Going through the engineering process with the matter books made it easier for us. The students were able to see the different types of matter, how many things can change into different states and the final goal was to create a package that allowed them to transport anything while maintaining the product intact. Our student project was titled, "Thinking Inside the Box!" We had fun. On behalf of the students and myself we are very thankful to you.”

Readers Today Leaders Tomorrow
Funded Oct 20, 2013My students have really enjoyed listening to stories on CD's. They enjoy the stories so much that they don't mind listening to the same books over and over. We have compared and discussed the importance of stories, reading fluency, intonation, fiction, non-fiction, imagination, and author's purpose. All of this in first grade! We have linked our reading to our writing and after our first writing assessment - our students rocked! We practiced writing an opinion paragraph comparing two stories and deciding which stories was the best and backing it up with the text. I do believe that sometimes the more we expose students to different types of reading, the more successful they become. We truly appreciate your donations.”
