  • iNeed to Communicate: Helping Deaf Students with an iPad

    Funded Oct 9, 2012

Thank you for your generous donation to the children in my classroom. Receiving this iPad was made possible because of you. This project has made an impact on my students in many ways. They have had countless hours of fun tracing letters, recording stories, taking photos, exploring, doing art, and writing messages. In addition to the fun they are having, they are learning the whole time as well! Because most of my students are Deaf and hard of hearing, many of them do not have the same access to language that most hearing kids have. This project has helped them develop language skills that will follow them through life. It is amazing how proficient they are with technology! They love being able to show their skills.

My students will continue to benefit from this project throughout the year and my future students will benefit from it for years to come. This type of integrated learning is vital for early childhood students to help them get the jump start they need in their academic career. Thank you for taking the time to check out our proposal and to make a donation.”

  • Building Blocks Needed For A Preschool Classroom (Literally)

    Funded Jan 11, 2010

Thank you for your generous donation to the children in my classroom. My proposal "Building Blocks Needed For A Preschool Classroom (Literally)" was made possible because of you. This project has made an impact on my students in many ways. First, my students are thrilled to have these alphabet blocks in our "Construction Zone". They have had countless hours of fun building with the blocks, creating words, and spelling their names. In addition to the fun they are having, they are learning quite a bit as well.

My students have not only been able to use the blocks to increase their balance and spatial awareness, but also to develop language and literacy skills. I have overheard them talking to one another about the letters and the letters they have in their own names. In addition, we have been able to include using them as an assessment tool as part of their portfolios when I observe them naming letters and spelling words. My students will continue to benefit from this project throughout the year and my future students will benefit from them for years to come. This type of integrated learning is vital for early childhood students to help them get the jump start they need in their academic career. Thank you for taking the time to check out our proposal and to make a donation. ”

  • Little Ones Need A Place To Sit

    Funded Feb 8, 2009

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. My 27 students this year have LOVED our new rug and students for many years to come will also receive great benefit from it. Not only has it added to the atmosphere of my classroom, but it has also added to the learning of my students.

We use the rug several times every single day. We begin and end our preschool session every day with circle time. In addition, we use it throughout the day for various large group activities. My students enjoy picking their seats and they are often heard discussing what letter or picture they are sitting on. It has contributed to letter learning as well as developing letter-sound connections. As various letters of the alphabet come up in conversation, my students have pointed out those letters on the rug. In addition, when we discuss the "Letter of the Week" and the sound it makes, my students have pointed out the sounds that the letters on the rug make.

Without your generous donation, receiving this rug for our classroom would not have happened. My students and I thank you for making this possible. My classroom and classrooms across the country thank you for your DonorsChoose.org donation.

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hopkins

  • Let the Deaf Children Talk

    Funded Jun 30, 2008

Thank you for your generous donation that will enable my students to better communicate with their parents. Because of your donation, I will be able to purchase a camcorder and tapes that I will use to create sign language DVDs so the parents of my students can practice their sign language skills. In addition, I will be able to tape my students during daily activities, so they can more easily share parts of their day with their parents. This camcorder will make learning easier for my students and will do a great deal to bridge the gap between home and school. My students and their parents are going to be thrilled when we return to school in the fall and they realize the possibilities of this new piece of equipment. I am so excited to get started on this project as soon as I receive the equipment because I know my students and their parents will receive immeasurable benefit from it. Thank you again for taking the time to look at my proposal and deciding to make a donation to help preschool deaf and hard of hearing students who just want to communicate with the world”

  • Deaf and Hard of Hearing Kids Play Dress Up!

    Funded Aug 20, 2008

Thank you for donating to my classroom. When we return to school in September, my students are going to be thrilled to have new dress-up costumes to play with. When we do our "community helpers" unit, they will be able to act out the doctor's office and the fire station and truly "get into" the parts for a deeper understanding of these occupations. My students will not only learn during specific units, but they will have countless hours of fun with these costumes in the dramatic play area. Play is vital to the learning of preschool students. Your donation will make a difference in the learning of my deaf and hard of hearing preschool students”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hopkins
