  • Special Art for Special Needs Kids!

    Funded Jan 1, 2015

Thank you so much for all your support. My students have ben able to create so many lovely art projects! We have been making all kinds of fun art projects that we were not able to make before, it has really expanded our horizons. These materials that we received through your kind donations helped my students to learn about new art techniques and types of 3 dimensional art. My students were even able to participate in a school fund raiser by making and selling beautiful wreaths to raise money for art supplies. They chose the themes and colors and materials they wanted to use to create their own personal creations.

We have been able to explore new avenues in art, it has put smiles on my students faces. Students who have limited mobility have been able to create beautiful works of art with the materials you have kindly and generously donated. These art supplies have been used by each and every student in our school. Thanks again from the bottom of our hearts!

    Sincerely,

Alice Anasa and ALL the students of PS 811 Q”

  • Art for Disabled Kids!

    Funded May 2, 2011

The materials you have generously donated made a huge difference in our "Artistic Experience" in our school. The DVDs were very helpful to see the Impressionist painters and how to achieve their particular style. Since my students are mostly visual learners it helped to view the DVDs and see firsthand what art is all about. We had a huge unit on the impressionists and as you can see in the photographs my students emulated their styles in their floral vase watercolor paintings. They learned about perception and color as well. It was easier for them to grasp Impressionist style by seeing and hearing about it in the DVD. I noticed a huge difference from their previous work, you saw the understanding coming through in their work. All of this added to their self confidence and self worth! Thank you from all of us!”

  • Special Needs Kids Love Art!

    Funded Dec 10, 2010

Thank you very much from all of us at PS 811. The materials that you have kindly donated have already been put to good use as you can see in the photographs we have submitted. Most of our students are visual learners and the DVDs have contributed to our art experience many-fold . It makes teaching and understanding a lot easier in our classroom. My students are able to grasp the various artists and artworks so much more easily than before. They are able to comprehend the impact of the artist and the different periods in art. We have been able to experience a wider range of art due to these DVDs. We will continue to benefit for years to come. Thank you once again.”

Thank you for your generous contributions! We are utilizing all the materials that we have received through DonorsChoose. My students are excited about all the new and exciting projects that we have embarked upon. I keep reminding them that the materials they are using have been donated by people who care about them. They often ask about the program.

Art is such an essential part of these students' lives; it gives them comfort, happiness, self-confidence and pure fun! Their eyes light up when they walk or wheel into my classroom. They are always interested in future art projects. Thank you for giving them the opportunity to create!”

  • Disabled Children Need Art!

    Funded May 5, 2010

We have been using all the wonderful art supplies you have funded for our school. Now we are in the middle of our summer school session. We are making more and more wonderful projects thanks to you! My students are having a lot of fun while they are learning about new art techniques. They are able to use the papers and markers to make murals and various projects.

Our summer theme is Health and Fitness, we are making giant murals highlighting the food pyramid, your supplies have come in vary handy. For the fitness part of the summer we will be making and decorating skateboards made out of cardboard. They will just be fun replicas, where my students have to decorate with things they like. The skateboard has to be a reflection on themselves. They will not only be learning about art but discovering themselves as well.

Every step of they way your generosity is helping them to create something special they can be proud of. We talk about Donors Choose and how blessed we are to have have your help through them. Thank you so much for all that you have done!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. ANASA

  • Art for Disabled Kids !

    Funded Dec 8, 2009

We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We have been making a multitude of art projects using the art supplies you have generously donated. We cannot put into words how we feel, so we drew some pretty fantastic thank you cards especially for you. Hope you have already received them.

We made posters and even a large mural to help Haiti, see how your donation has not only helped our school but our friends in Haiti as well. Without all these art materials we would not be able to make such beautiful projects, and my students would not have been able to express themselves so fully.”

  • Special Projects for Special Kids!

    Funded May 1, 2009

My students and I would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts, without your generous donations we would not have been able to make the wonderful art projects that we did.. We were able to benefit from your kindness throughout the year and it culminated into the spectacular carnival at the close of the summer school. Since our school is a special education school we are open for 12 months, the students get a 3 week vacation at the end of August. Since we are open all year we need even more quantities of supplies in order to experience art class.                                                       My students made Eco-friendly, recycled T shirts and puppets for the year end carnival using the art materials you generously provided. The carnival lasted for half the day and was an exciting event, the entire school wore their  special eco T shirts including the staff! We were featured on the local newspaper cover, so our students were celebrities!

We have been using the art materials and books throughout the school year, and are looking forward to using them over and over again in the coming years. I am the only art teacher in the school and I cover the entire school, around 200 students. We go through a lot of art materials very quickly. You have been a true inspiration to these kids. Because of their disabilities these children need even more attention and encouragement. It makes them very happy to know that there are so many people out there that truly care.

These children are very special and need to experience the joy of art to its' fullest, and thanks to all of you, along with donors choose it was all possible.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. ANASA

  • Keeping "ART" Alive for Special Needs Children.

    Funded Jan 31, 2009

I am writing to thank you for thoughtful and generous support. In this economy it is very difficult to get various materials in order to conduct a "Special Needs" art class. We need so many varied art materials in order to meet the needs of my special students. My students have physical, and or mental disabilities, which makes the art experience difficult at times. I need to adapt practically every project to suite the student's personal learning an physical ability.    I work in a special needs school where all the students have disabilities, and need the materials which work for them and make art easier for them. I am the only art teacher in the school, I cover all the classes (over 200 students every week). We go through supplies very quickly. Sometimes supplies may be destroyed because the student is having difficulty with the materials or project. I always want to give each student a full experience of the art project, therefore I may need several different materials for each individual.

With the wonderful materials we have received from your donations through Donorschoose, such as the markers, drawing paper, and hole punches they have created the beautiful" Thank You" cards and artwork especially for you. We are currently working on new projects that have implemented your materials. We are also getting ready for the "ST. Patrick's Day" parade, where we are making shamrocks, rainbows, and pots of gold using many of your generously donated materials.

Please accept our deepest thanks and endless gratitude. We will be using these materials for a very long time and expanding our horizons!”

    Mrs. ANASA

    Funded Jun 7, 2008

Thank you from all of us at P.S. 811 Queens. You are making such a huge difference in the children's lives! We will be making beautiful artwork throughout the entire school. About 200 students will benefit from your generosity. Many of these students cannot read, write or even speak but they can express themselves through their artwork! These children have so many varied disabilities from physical to cognitive that we need art materials to conform to their abilities. Because of you the art program will be going strong at PS 811, and my students will be reaping the benefits! We can't thank you enough”

    With gratitude,

I am an Art teacher in a "Special Needs" school. My students vary in age from 10 years of age to 21 years of age.
