Funded May 5, 2020During these difficult covid times it has been a challenge teaching remote-online especially Art. The first and largest hurdle I encountered was art materials. Manu of my students had nothing at home. When we were physically in school I provided all the materials in my classroom. My students being quarantined was a completely different story. Many did not have any art materials or money to purchase them. Many of their parents were out of work and the last thing on their list were markers and crayons. They barely had enough money to provide food for their children.
I had the idea of sending basic supplies of color markers, pencils and drawing paper to my students that really did not have any. Some of my students were drawing in lined notebooks or paper bags during my remote art classes. In my grant I requested markers, color pencils and copy paper. I also requested large manila envelopes for mailing. I wanted to buy as much as I could for as little cost as possible. My grant was generously funded by all of you. The next step I asked the teachers to give me names and addresses of the students who didn't have art materials. Using my own money for postage I mailed out over 30 packets to my students.
The art that came fro all of this is remarkable. I was flooded with amazing art work and thank you emails!! We are so grateful to all of you, you have made a difference in these students lives!”
With gratitude,
