My class has used new writing materials for various independent and collaborative writing projects. Each student contributes by discussing, sharing ideas, and creating a collective of writing materials. It has been a wonderful experience observing my students' writing creativity and teamwork.

The students were eager to dive into writing and explore their imagination using the fresh supplies. Our next steps involve continuing to strengthen our writing skills and foster a supportive learning environment.”

  • Visually Vibrant First Graders!

    Funded Dec 1, 2021

Your gracious donations has allowed my class and I to bring our class lessons/class projects to fruition. Each item given allowed us to be able to build our overall literacy skills for example our independent/peer reading skills as well as create books on various genres, we were able to participate in class and school wide projects without facing the unfortunate problem of lack of resources, and the ability to showcase our creativity by creating banners and posters for causes dear to our hearts. It has allowed myself as an educator the materials to expand the students learning opportunities and has been truly appreciated. We thank you and hope you understand that your donations have impacted our First Grade experience beyond words.”

  • Make a Way for 3rd Grade!

    Funded Aug 28, 2016

My class and I would like to thank you again for your generous contributions. The students have been able to use the materials in various ways in our classroom. It has been a great asset to have someone invest in their education and to promote a successful classroom environment. The students needs have been decreased and your generosity has aided in increasing their learning individually and collectively. The materials provided the students with opportunities such as creating powerful artwork work that foster inclusion. Also, the reading materials has extended the students' reading comprehension skills and has allowed them to participate in deep higher order group discussions.

My students were overjoyed to receive grade appropriate materials.

They gasped and stated many pleasant responses when entering the classroom filled with boxes lined up in our class. One student yelled out in a great boisterous voice "Wow we were given a half circle table to support our team talk time! " and another student yelled " Whoa we really can bring our artwork alive!" Their responses and gratitude placed a smile in my heart and I will be forever thankful.”

    With gratitude,

  • Hip Hip Hooray Technology is The Way!

    Funded Aug 25, 2014

My students were overjoyed to receive the resources donated by your foundation. The materials provided has allowed the students to explore learning and use technology as a guide. They were elated to receive so many materials and sighed and gasped as I open each box full of resources. One student called out "Wow it feels like a birthday party for the class."

I was able to infuse the materials given in many ways such as providing the students with multiple entry points. The students are able to interact with technology and that provides more hands on activities for my students. The mini ipads has really brought our literacy units alive during class meetings as well as individual activities. The printer and microphone supports our literacy topics (Informational /Literary )and allow students to express their thinking in various ways and this has changed the participation dynamics in my class greatly. All the materials donated are used on a daily basis and it has made teaching more creative.

The student's overall learning has increased immensely and because of your generosity it has promoted one of my personal teaching philosophies "Hip Hip Hooray Technology is the Way!" We are truly thankful for your donations.”

  • Create an Interactive Space!

    Funded Jul 8, 2014

My class and I would like to greatly thank you for donating to our Create an Interactive Space project. The materials given has impacted our classroom environment in such an awesome way! As first graders we are always using our creative minds and with limited resources our creations are limited as well. The students were amazed by the unlimited resources given and many comments were stated such as " Wow...we have so many writing things...like colored pencils!" or " The carpet is so bright and beautiful...we all can sit on it during meeting time." Their little eyes lit up each time we received a package and it felt like Christmas in Fall.

We use many materials given on a daily basis such as the bright class carpet which provides the students an area to read independently, with a buddy reader partner, or listen to a great read aloud. The writing materials allows the students to convey their writings with vivid pictures. The writing journals keeps our thoughts organized and the pages are designed to depict their illustrations and a space to write their thinking. Also, the phonics package used on our class smartboard gives students support with developing their phonemic awareness and phonics which gives them the tools to write and read independently.

This funded project has boosted my teaching because I am able to really tap into my students creativity and allow them to interact in many ways. I am grateful for this opportunity as an educator because it has assisted my students in growing academically, socially, and most of all independently!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pinckney

  • Ready, Set, Go...Help Our Reading and Writing Grow!

    Funded Mar 27, 2014

I was so elated when my request was funded. I was equally elated to share the new materials with my students. The grade level books received were exactly the piece needed to move their individual reading levels. The materials are easily designed for students to identify their " just right "books. The books are placed in bright green bins and has colorful letter labeled stickers which allows the students and I to keep them organized.

Since we received our books we have used them several times. I am able to guide their reading on a daily basis. Practically, everyday since receiving our level books; my students request to read the books. I am excited to report that my students are motivated to have their reading levels grow! I have noticed a change come over my struggling readers due to the books with Cd's which has provided a great support.

Thanks again, for being willing to donate to my class. It is always great to get materials that will enhance my students' abilities. When you motivate a child to read independently you motivate them to learn independently. Your donation has

touched us in so many ways and we will be forever thankful for your kindness.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Pinckney

My school is located in the heart of Harlem, New York in an area that has very limited resources. Most of the students receive free lunch and due to budget cuts, our students do not have access to a school library. This has made it challenging for my students to be able to increase their reading levels and take more books home to encourage parent support. They have a high interest in reading fiction and non fiction text and they would greatly benefit from having books to support with completing school and home tasks. Our class motto is "We will be second grade ready." I have set the tone and the expectations that we will be on or above reading level. Reading has such a great impact in our everyday activities and with the demands of the Common Core curriculum, the more books available the more the reading and writing can grow! My class and I will forever be thankful for your support and this will make our hearts smile.
