Funded Aug 23, 2018Believe it or not, our school district does not provide us with ink even when we are lucky enough to receive printers from Donor's Choose. If I didn't have Donor's Choose, I would have to pay for the toner myself. Sometimes that can be a big burden on my budget that already gets stretched for other classroom materials. The donations that helped is with ink had far reaching impact. Some students have access to tech at home and some do not. Having access to computers and printers mean that science fair projects and history research projects get completed. I do have some students who may have computers at homes but do not have access to printers. They are able to send me their documents through Google Docs and I am able to print what they need. One student, C, has a parent who lives overseas. Since we have the ink and printer, he was able to help her edit her science project and he emailed to me. I was able to print it right there in the classroom and she and I assembled the project together.
The ink and printer paper was also helpful for me because instead of taking my personal money after school to go to Costco and print out photos, I am able to print them in class and make beautiful and creative bulletin boards featuring student work.
Finally, former students have come to me for help with their projects. Two of them, N and A, are two hardworking students who don't have access to technology, beyond their cell phones, at home. Even though, they are not in my class, they feel comfortable enough to come, do research and get printing help. I'm happy to have an open door policy and grateful for our awesome donors who make that possible.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Codd
