  • Beanbags and Floor Pillows For Fifth Grade Scholars!

    Funded Aug 19, 2024

What a fantastic gift you have given to my students - thank you so very much! We have a diverse group of kiddos who need lots of support, space, and accommodation to feel like they can do their best in school. Being able to have flexible seating options is crucial to their feeling centered and balanced in class - the options to sit on these incredible bean bags alone or with friends and to have a floor cushion wherever they need one has been fantastic for opening up alternative sitting and working positions that have lead to increased student comfort and productivity!

This grant helped with the one thing our classroom was missing, which the students have been asking for from day 1 this year: flexible seating. We rotate who gets priority on the bean bags every day which ensures all students have a day of the week that is super special for them! They are building new friendships while sharing these huge seats with other classmates, and we are the envy of every other 5th grade classroom in the school!”

  • Phenomenal Phonics Tools Make Learning Fun!

    Funded Aug 7, 2015

Thank you so very much for supporting our students by helping us fulfill this grant for educational phonics and grammar games. The students have enjoyed a 'fun Friday' break from our regular lessons each week to engage in these standards-based, rigorous games, that are actually work (but don't feel a bit like work to the kids!).

The silly sentence games have been the biggest hit, but I am thrilled that the game selection has been appropriate for our learners from Kindergarten all the way up to third grade.

Thank you so much for helping to diversify our teaching tools and keep students engaged!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Scott-Trainer

  • Phonics Students Need Basic Writing Supplies, Please!

    Funded May 7, 2015

Thank you so very much for supporting our students with your generous gift! We desperately needed some basic writing supplies, and this grant came through for us in the nick of time! We have been using the pencils daily, the writing pads constantly, and the grips, erasers and sharpeners regularly.

These supplies seem simple but they are the backbone of our writing work. Students love being able to use sharp, new pencils and notepads that are sized 'just for them'!

    We deeply appreciate your generosity.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Scott-Trainer

  • First Graders Need Online Reading Tools and Resources!

    Funded Jan 23, 2014

Thank you so very much for this incredible resource!

I cannot explain how valuable this online tool has been; we literally use the projectable books every day for shared reading, and we use printed versions of the books for our daily independent reading. We did not have appropriately leveled books for our struggling readers prior to this grant, and now my high and my low readers are blissfully happy with leveled texts that are interesting, engaging, and beautiful to look at!

Thank you again for this incredible resource. My students have greatly benefited from your generosity!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Scott-Trainer

  • Help First Graders Make a Big Difference in the Arctic!

    Funded Sep 24, 2013

Thank you so very much for helping to support this project and making the Arctic come alive for my students! My class has been working all year to learn about Polar Bears for a Service Learning Project, and we were really struggling to make connections with other cultures and environments but the resources we got from this grant have made a huge difference!

We have been watching the movies as a class reward and they have been very powerful in explaining about the severity of the environment and survival demands of the Arctic. We have been reading the books in class, and enjoying them during independent reading time as well.

Being able to have so many different ways to experience and understand the Arctic has really given my students a curiosity for the world that they didn't possess before. What a powerful gift- thank you!!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Scott-Trainer

  • First Graders Want to Get Sticky!

    Funded Dec 4, 2013

Thank you so very very much for the amazing donation to my class! We have been struggling with supplies since the first week of school- students just don't have the money to purchase all they need for home and school work, and the little supplies we do get in class just don't last as long as we need them to.

We have been sharing scissors, and borrowing glue from the Kindergarten classrooms, but that all changed with your amazing donation!

We all have our own scissors and glue now, both the drippy kind and the stick kind! The organizer is also incredibly helpful for managing supplies during projects or when they aren't in use!

Thank you again, this was a simple but powerful gift!”

  • First Graders Love Non-Fiction Books!

    Funded Dec 18, 2013

Thank you so very much for helping to fund this incredibly important project! My students have been struggling to find texts that they can access to do our non-fiction comprehension work on, or to use as references for report writing... until this box arrived!

Now my struggling but deserving students have access to new, bright, engaging, and relevant non-fiction texts with reading levels that are appropriate so that students can actually understand and make connections from the facts they are reading.

These texts have been invaluable as independent reading resources, and we are about to start using them for a report writing unit focusing on the Writing Process!

Thank you for helping to make my classroom a more wonderful place to learn in!”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Scott-Trainer

  • First Graders Need Basic Supplies To Inspire Success!

    Funded Nov 1, 2013

Thank you so very much for supporting my students by donating to this grant. Today we opened the box of supplies and the students were squealing and cheering with delight! We have been struggling to find pencils in our room, and collecting the ones we have found at recess to bring in for our own use. Our white board markers are mostly broken and dried out, so they have been sharing during our whiteboard work times (which is hardly efficient), and our few regular markers are so over- used that they are not very effective or pretty any more.

Each student was able to get a pencil bag from me today and fill it with markers, pencils, and crayons for their very own. This was a really amazing time for my students, they felt so special and proud to have their very own, beautiful, new supplies. All the work completed in class today was so beautiful: the students took so much care and pride in all that they did.

Your gift of simple classroom supplies has been a truly transformative one for my classroom. Thank you for making my students feel special.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Scott-Trainer

I work in a 1st grade classroom in beautiful NE Denver, Colorado. My students are very diverse, often learning English as a second language, and many come from broken homes with severe economic challenges. My goal as a 1st grade teacher is not only to teach students the basic skills they need to be successful in school, but to be excited about learning, and willing to work hard to learn independently their whole lives. DonorsChoose and all my wonderful donors have really made a difference in each and every classroom I have worked in. The projects that I have been lucky enough to have funded have helped provide and enhance learning opportunities for hundreds of students, and will continue to for years to come. I hope you will find room in your heart and wallet to donate to one of my projects to help support my instruction and my students! Thank you for your time and generosity!
