Motivating a New Mindset
Funded Nov 5, 2022Thank you so much for providing materials for my classroom. I have a classroom of learners that range from pre-primer to 8th grade and the materials have helped aid in their development in many ways. The books that were donated were mostly graphic novels because it is what the kids enjoy, plus with less text, they can understand the story and grasp the content. The school that I am currently teaching at is very rural and the book series about hunting and fishing has been a huge hit with my boys.
The games have been an amazing add into my classroom. I have implemented Game Day on Fridays. Students aren't allowed on any type of electronic devices, they have to learn communication skills through the playing of games. It is amazing the growth that I have witnessed. Some of my kids barely communicate with others, but they come to life in my room and these games have been the main reason. Certain Fridays we have whole class Uno or Connect Four tournaments. I love seeing the growth from my students socially. The social emotional games, such as No Warries and Mad Smartz have been super beneficial for my students.
My students favorite aspect of the donors choose grant has been the fidget box. Most of my students struggle with staying still and focusing for periods of time and the fidgets have been a huge hit with them.
I would never be able to say thank you enough, but Thank you again. The additions in the classroom have been super beneficial for the social emotional growth of my students.”

Funded Feb 8, 2022Thank you so much for donating to my classroom project of "Creating Lifelong Readers." The students were overly excited when the books started rolling in. They couldn't wait to sink their teeth into all the new series that had been delivered. We had many discussions as well about treating our new books with the upmost respect and they did a great job throughout the year. There were many new series that the kids had never even heard of, so I made sure to read them the first few chapters out of each, just to get them hooked. Of course, my students went straight for the Harry Potter collection and that series has been hard to keep on the shelves. Bringing these new books into the room has been the best thing I could have done for my class all year, they were just so excited.
I started off with reading Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate, the story focuses on Homelessness and how the boy copes with it by talking it through with his imaginary 6 ft tall cat, who also does some crazy things throughout the book. It brought up so many amazing talking points with my 4th graders. They were excited to see how the story would end up and begged me to read for longer amounts of the day. This is why I love writing these grants. It gives me such joy to see them so excited about books.
Thank you again so much for donating to my classroom and helping to create lifelong readers.”

Funded Jan 8, 2014Thank you so much from the bottom of my heart! My students are loving the horseshoe table that was bought with the donors choose funds. The table is being utilized in many different ways. Students use the table as a place to work by themselves if they are having trouble concentrating. Students are being worked with in a small group setting of 4 to 5 at a time. In third grade, we have to complete many extra hours of Response to Intervention for those students who are not progressing as quickly, and this table provides the ample space to complete this type of instruction. This table is also a place for me to get away from my teacher desk and become more involved with my students. My students are constantly asking to sit at the table to work because it allows them space to focus. I feel like this table allowed me to become a better teacher because there was a space for my students to work and learn. Thank you so much!”
