  • iNeed an iPad!

    Funded Sep 30, 2021

Thank you SO MUCH for your generous donations towards our new classroom iPad!

Students LOVE interacting with lessons on the old and then showing off their work to the class. By hooking it up to our classroom TV, students have been able to share their work with the whole class to foster deeper discussions about math and science.

Students have also used the iPad to conduct research, answer questions, find data, and distinguish reliable resources. Thank you for connecting them to the the global body of knowledge on the internet!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Diaz

This classroom project was brought to life by The Allstate Foundation and 5 other donors.
  • Comparing the Circulatory Systems of Humans and Plants

    Funded Oct 24, 2018

On behalf of the fourth-grade students at Paseo Del Ray, I personally would like to thank you for the generous gift you have provided to my students. The hands-on kits such as the circulating heart, the food web components, and the construction blocks have allowed my students to utilize hands-on materials to explore the world of science. We were extremely excited when the packages arrived at the classroom and couldn't wait to use them. Every student in the class now has had the opportunity to compare the xylem and phloem of nutrients and water within trees to the circulation of oxygen, nutrients, CO2, and waste in the human heart.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Diaz

  • From Amoebas To Humans: All Life Is Made Up Of Cells

    Funded Sep 19, 2013

Your generous contribution made it possible for my students to explore the hidden world of cells. For the first time ever, the students in my class are now able to see the tiny single cell organisms that live among us in our everyday lives.

The children are so amazed that something so small could actually be alive. In fact, they have a better understanding of how colds and flu's actually spread from one person to another! Hence, they claim to wash their hands and use hand sanitize before every meal (well, maybe more often than they use to).

Once again, on behalf of all the fifth grade students and myself, we thank you for such a generous gift! We could not have made this possible without your support.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Diaz

My students come from various social economic backgrounds including but not limited to: College educated parents who are very active in their lives and at school; others come from struggling single parent homes, with minimal access to technology. All of the students however, share a passion to learn and particularly love science. As a science teacher in a science magnet, I feel it is my responsibility to expose all the students to the most up to date resources available to assist in fostering their growth in science.
