Have Students - Need Books

I am deeply touched by your generous donations to help fund my project for books, Scholastic magazines, and a REAL picture book bookshelf for my Kindergarteners. I wanted to instill a love of books in these children in this ever increasing technological world. I believe there is nothing like curling up in a cozy chair, opening up a book, and exploring new places and people and things!

My Kindergarten students are five years old, and everything about school is exciting and new. We are a Title 1 school with several ESL students. Last year there were three Kinder classrooms - this Kinder classroom was added just this year and we need books! The few shelves we have in our room are bare ... but we could also use a shelf to house those new picture books; so choosing a book by it's cover is easier! They love being read to, but I want each child to share my love of reading when they move on to first grade, and to be successful, they need books and age appropriate magazines. Scholastic weekly magazines will assist in teaching reading in whole group and small groups and when the lessons are complete, the children will have something to take home to practice reading to their families; and it will be all theirs!
