My Kids Love Books!

Help me give my students lots of interesting books to read. My students love to read books. I cannot keep them in the class library. Please help me continue to provide my students with new books to enjoy.

  • A Cool Place To Read

    Funded Jan 14, 2025

I want to take a moment to thank you all very much. Your generous support will enable us to begin a much needed project at our school. These types of projects could never happen without people like you. I can’t wait to share photos of the transformed recreation yard. My students thank you as well. They are super excited to create a new space and they are eager to get to work creating it. We will keep you posted on the project.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young

  • My Students Love Books!

    Funded Aug 26, 2019

My students were so excited to unpack the large box of books you made possible. There were books that everyone could read. I am very happy that my library is now filled with books from 2nd grade to 6th and 7th grade. Now, as a result of your generous support, all of the children in my classrooms can participate in Silent Sustained Reading in a meaningful way. I want to thank you on behalf of the students at Grover Washington Middle School. I cannot even express what your donations means to me. Thank you very much.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Young

Although my primary subject matter is science and social studies my students participate in Silent Sustained Reading in class at least three times a week. In fact, many of the concepts explored in social studies are guided through the use of a particular text. Also, my readers often spend lunch and recess periods in class reading. Literacy skills are critical for development across the academic spectrum. Young children, particularly those at risk for difficulty in reading later, benefit from the interconnectedness of reading, math, and science domains. These books are rich, and varied in themes and subject matter. My students will be able to extend their exploration of social studies and sciences concepts through fiction and non-fiction text.
