Feeding Our Robotics Team at their March Public Events
Funded Mar 1, 2024Thank you for bringing so much joy to our team. They were able to do two additonal outreaches this year, making this season our busiest yet! We did three outreaches at The Great Lakes Science Center, and two outreaches at Cleveland State Univeristy. They really enjoyed the CSU events, where they could walk the highschool teams' pitts. Last year's co-captain is on the highschool Team 120, and we just learned they are going to Worlds!
Although CSU blocked us from bringing in our snacks, and we had to scramble to find an alternate way to feed them, the kids were still able to benefit from this project. We have a stocked robotics cabinet with snacks and drinks, and we will use them for our remaining robotics meetings. We just finished inventory of all the SPIKE Prime kits and organizing our cabinet. Our next task is to download the LEGO WiDo software to all our desktop computers and do some outreach with our younger students. The snacks will come in handy during all this hard work!
Thank you for your support. They had a fantastic season!”

Make and Take Crochet Kits for Our Regional Robotics Competition
Funded Dec 20, 2023Wow! Our Crochet kits were a huge hit at regionals! It was exciting to see that so many of the other teams made their lanyards and wore them proudly. Making the kits was a great team-building experience, too! We paired the yarn with the lanyard hardware we purchased from Temu. Danashia and Michelle even made a YouTube video on how to use the kit.
We've made over 100 kits, and were able to hand them out at regionals, and at CSU when we met the Lt. Govenor. We saved one last bag of them to hand out when we return to the Great Lakes Science Center in March. The kits really showed the kids how to pay attention to details, and distributing the kits helped them expand their presentation skills.
Thank you for helping us make this robotics season so special.”

More Robotics Competitions = More Fuel and Swag Needed
Funded Dec 12, 2023Our students GREATLY appreciated having snacks for their tournament and for their exhibition day at The Great Lakes Science Center. The second tournament was INTENSE, and they ate a lot! Even with the support of Donors Choose and our fund-raising, there are a multitude of expenses that are associated with FIRST LEGO League, especially when we have to travel an hour away. Their families love knowing that they don't have to worry about supplying food for the team, which really adds up. We all appreciate feeling the extra love when we are most stressed.
The second part of this project allowed us to make fantastic hoodies for the team and our Principal. They LOVE their hoodies! We've worn them for multiple events and just had two more events added to this year's schedule. They are excited to know they will look great while out in the community representing our school.
Thank you for the continued love and support you show this team.”

A Small Mouse Problem
Funded Oct 11, 2023Thank you for making sure our littlest learners are able to interact with our desktop computers. Learning to navigate the mouse and class website are the two most important skills they learn in the lab. Many students are so accustomed to touch screens that they don't know how to use a mouse. They often hold it up like a remote control the first few times until they make the connection. Many of our special needs students also rely on the single-click mice for more control.
WIthout these mice, at least 1/3 of our students would struggle greatly to use our class computers. Thank you for setting these students up for success.”

Funded Oct 22, 2023Our hard-working robotics team has been going non-stop, and our food closet is a huge source of motivation. I gave the key to our captain, Ev, and when motivation lags or frustration rises, he distributes snacks. These snacks immediately raise spirits and help them reset. I'm surprised how many of them come to school ravenously hungry in the morning. I can't imagine them being able to focus on the complex problems in front of them while hungry.
Thank you for making our team feel cared for, supported and loved. They know exactly where their snacks come from and they feel you here with them every day.”

Funded Nov 18, 2023You did it! You fueled our team to victory. On Saturday, December 9th, Tremont Montessori's robotics team, One More Second, boarded a 6:30am bus and traveled to Warren G. Harding High School for the NEOFRA Regional FIRST LEGO League Qualifier. They spent a 13-hour day, competing against 14 teams, in four equally weighted categories: Innovation Project Presentation, Robot Design, Robot Performance (Best of 3 rounds) and Core Values. The team won the Champion's Award, the highest honor at the competition. "This award celebrates a team that embodies the FIRST LEGO League Challenge experience by fully embracing the Core Values while achieving excellence and innovation in Robot Performance, Robot Design, and the Innovation Project." Their project follows their path as they learned to crochet, taught their classmates and ultimately designed an app in Scratch.mit.edu to teach others beyond their school. They are now working on a service project for those in need in the City of Cleveland. They also qualified to move forward and compete in the Northeast Ohio District Qualifer on January 13th, 2024.
They completely devoured their suitcase full of snacks and drinks which kept their spirits and energy levels high. We are so grateful for not having to worry about anything but the problem in front of us.”

Funded Sep 3, 2023We are excited to be making wood projects in the maker space now that our materials have been restocked. The lower elementary and middle school have been 3D printing, so our Pre-K and K students are the first wood project. Since our schedule rotates weekly, there is a PK/K class project every week for the next month. They are making either pumpkin or apple scent diffusers for their cubbies or car. The kids carefully paint the wood, and then we sandwich a piece of felt in between the wood and add a few drops of scented oil.
Now that Halloween has passed, we are almost exclusively making apples. I cut apples on the laser for about four hours yesterday for this week's projects. I also cut some snowflakes to make magnets during a free-choice day, and some snowmen for Mrs. Lardie's upper elementary class to make up for our short 3-Day rotation this week (they are pretty sad to get only 3 days of tech this month). Then we will move on to ornament season in the next rotation.
Thank you for helping me spread so much joy with our maker space!”

Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you for making us look fabulous during our first scrimmage event this past weekend. (Our robot came in 3rd place!) Our shirts looked great and made it easy to identify the team with their bright color. The kids especially like the back of the shirt that we designed this year, because we were able to replicate the First LEGO League chicken. This is fitting, because we have been obsessed with the chicken since last year. The kids earned crocheted emotional support chickens this summer when they completed the 3rd level in our Carnegie Mellon Robotics Academy lessons, and Ava and Rhi even crocheted giant chickens with me in the off-season.
Having team shirts gives us a sense of family and is one less detail for us to worry about as we navigate the FLL season. Thank you for bringing such joy to this team!”

Funded Aug 30, 2023We had so much fun this past month creating items for Unity Day. Our new acrylic was a huge part of this celebration. The middle school students were able to create anything from any material as long as it promoted unity or combated bullying. Many chose to make LED light displays with acrylic cut in the Glowforge. These designs were scattered throughout the building to be displayed for Unity Day. The office and cafeteria were especially excited to be selected by students as a place to display student work, which did an excellent job of uniting the building.
Our chief jewelry maker, Madalyn, has been hard at work creating earrings, and training others to make them using our fancy acrylic designs. We plan to start selling them this week during conferences to help support other projects in the tech lab. There are always extra supplies needed every week and our earring fund really helps keep us stocked in things like 3D printer filament, yarn, and jewelry making supplies.
Thank you for giving us an opportunity to self-support our projects and to keep creativity flowing throughout the school!”

Robotics Snacks for Early Morning Practice and Beyond
Funded Aug 2, 2023I'm pretty sure my team's stomachs are bottomless. They definitely are always interested in a snack. Having early morning snacks helps kick-start their day and arrive on time. They especially feel special knowing that the snacks in the cupboard are exclusively for the robotics team. Our captain has taken ownership of snack distribution by requiring them to create a task or mission before they can eat. These short tasks quickly engage them in the morning and then fuel them through practice. We are excited to finally have the early morning bus runs start next Monday which will bring the full team in for practice. It has been an unusually long wait for several of our kids and we are looking forward to many fun and exciting sessions.
Thank you for helping our team!”
