Full STEAM Ahead for Creativity and Critical Thinking!
Funded Dec 1, 2020We are using our new STEAM resources in a variety of ways in second grade. We showcased the new materials with a "S.T.E.A.M. Day" where students rotated through each of the new materials to try them out and get an introduction of them. Going forward, each week the students choose a bin to use when they are completed with their work and at our brain break times.
The students' enthusiasm for the materials was contagious. They were so excited to try them out and learn from them. The feedback from the students was so positive. They are excited each week to change bins and explore with a new one. It is wonderful to see them grow as scientists, mathematicians, artists, and engineers!
Since our first S.T.E.A.M. Day was so positive, we are currently planning another S.T.E.A.M. day for the future. We are working to enrich the tubs we currently have to take the students' learning even further. We also are working on incorporating our materials into our upcoming science units.”

This classroom project was brought to life by FamilyAlbum and one other donor.Creativity and Critical Thinking Through STEM Bins
Funded Feb 26, 2020Thank you so much for donating the STEM materials for our classrooms. We introduced the second graders to the STEM kits on our first annual Second Grade STEM Day in March. The second graders used the kits and rotated through the various activities throughout the day. The feedback from students was amazing. They were so excited to explore, build and learn more as they manipulated the materials. Many reported their excitement for using them again in the near future.
We plan to incorporate more of the Second Grade Stem Days into our monthly school calendar next year. After rotating students through the materials for familiarity, we will allow them to sign up for kits they are most interested in exploring further on future Stem Days. Also, we plan to have them available during inside recess times and as an option for students that finish work early. We envision them being very popular and as a high motivator for kids to complete work!
These stem kits have been a wonderful complement to our science and social studies units and have met our philosophy of teaching with hands-on experiences. We look forward to using them again in the future and adding even more options and opportunities for the second graders. Thank you again!!”
