I am beginning my first year in a new K-8 school, in a inner city of Pennsylvania. I will be teaching kindergarten for the first time. When I walked into my classroom for the first time, I was amazed by how large my classroom was. There is plenty of space for me to set up learning centers, a small group area, and tables for independent work. But the one thing that was noticeable missing was a classroom rug. I was not able to bring to my new school any of the beautiful classroom furniture I had at my old school. Students at my school are coming from various home lives. Some students will come to school with a lot of experience with books and others will come with little to no experience with books. The Magic of Reading is going to be my central theme this year in my classroom.
