Focused in 5th Grade
Funded Aug 12, 2020Challenges often times bring opportunities. Thank you donors for taking the opportunity to help fund a classroom tablet for our classroom. The impact of the coronavirus will forever change the way teachers teach and students learn, and in a really good way. This pandemic has helped us all realize that educational technology that delivers high quality content and that keeps students attention has never been more important.
While we had planned to use the tablet as a document camera, the need to have students attend virtual lessons superceded the need for a document camera. With this tablet, students that are quaratined and that are absent for any length of time have been able to be part of classroom lessons with a front row virtual "seat."
The students have been excited to interact with their classmates via this technology. It is the next best thing to having the student in class. With the adjustable goose neck tablet holder, a virtual student can also be moved to be part of an in class small group discussion.
Educators, parents, and students are making it through the barriers this pandemic has presented in education. The walls of our classroom are no longer confined to the physical classroom. Technology, like this tablet, is allowing for more flexiblity in learning that is enabling our students to work more collaboratively. We could not do any of it without the help of community donors. Thank you for your generous donations.”

This classroom project was brought to life by The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and 4 other donors.Science Fair!
Funded Oct 13, 2015Thank you for providing Science Fair display boards for the 143 students in 5th & 6th grades at Harmony Grove Elementary. Students were amazed when they saw how many boxes of display boards we had. Your donation helped fuel excitement in the students and saved parents the added expense of having to purchase boards. Twenty one Science Fair projects went on to the SW Arkansas Regional Science Fair at SAU in Magnolia. Eleven of the twenty-one placed, but all were winners because of your generosity.”

Science Fair!
Funded Oct 24, 2014There were 111 fifth and sixth grade students that received a science fair project board for our school science fair from your company and we are so very grateful! Our school, Harmony Grove Elementary, is in a lower socio-economic area in Camden, Arkansas. Because of your generosity in funding the science fair boards and colored pencils, all the students were able to have the same advantages that helped them be successful in creating their science fair experiment displays. Thanks so very much!!”

Science Fair
Funded Oct 10, 2013The impact that the donors at Donors Choose made on our students here at Harmony Grove Elementary in Camden, Arkansas is beyond great. The students were so excited to get their very own science fair boards, to have markers that would help them design their boards, and a camera to take pictures to put on their science fair projects. The camera also added to the students' excitement because it helped them document experimental procedures and other classroom experiences, as well as the science fair projects, and to post pictures on our school website for all of our community to see.
The science fair boards, markers, and camera allowed all students to start out with the same advantages with their science fair projects. Low income students felt a lot less stress because they didn't have to buy anything. In fact, mostly all parents were grateful for not being required to buy anything for their children's projects. Whether low income or not, all families appreciated the donors purchases.
This project boosted my teaching knowledge because I got to see and appreciate each and every students' individuality. The project was not about a grade or necessarily winning, but the students really did their best, and the majority of the winners were not the "typical" A students. In fact, one student, who struggles academically and has to get special modifications to succeed in school won first place in our school science fair and won 2nd place in our regional science fair. Also her project has gained attention locally, statewide, and just recently nationwide. Who knows you may be seeing her project on 20/20 or the nightly news. Finally, there was an equal balance between low, medium, and high income family winners. That tells me that the students all had the adequate tools needed which allowed them to focus on their creativity and scientific thinking. Thank You So Very Much!!!
