Second graders spend a lot of time on the floor. They listen to books that adults read aloud. They read independently. They work with partners and on team projects. They listen to their peers share out their writing and give feedback. All of this work is harder to do when they are uncomfortable. Currently, not all of my students fit on my too small rug and some are forced to sit on the cold floor or to sit around us in chairs. A soft place to sit will make it easier for them to focus on learning and will make our classroom a more inviting space.
