Students will be able to enjoy listening to selected stories, learn strategies to help them connect through social emotional learning, and complete a science/STEM activity that enables them to apply what they have learned. Using the materials provided, the students will be able to plan, design, and construct creative projects related to various SEL strategies
Integrating these SEL strategies can support instruction and have a positive impact on academic achievement.
Utilizing these strategies in classroom lessons can assist children in acquiring knowledge and skills that impact their ability to manage emotions, behaviors, and set and achieve goals.
As an example, students can listen to the story,"The North Star", by Peter H. Reynolds. In this story, the rabbit was in such a rush that he lost track of where he was going and ended up in a river. The students are challenged to use materials such as pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, and binder clips to create a boat to get the rabbit to safety. This story teaches the students about mindfulness. There are a total of six stories that correspond with six activities. This project will support students to set positive goals, reinforce social awareness, establish relationship skills, and assist students with responsible decision making.
With your generosity, I will be able to provide fun, stimulating, and educational opportunities for the students to express their creativity and form the foundation of a skillset that will prepare them for success throughout their lives.
