Students need to see people who look like them, from many professions, who found success. The case of Ms. Edna Lewis is legendary. Using this informational text, I hope to inspire a new generation with southern cooking. Along with the story of Ms. Lewis, students will incorporate math, social studies and science in their learning. Ms. Edna Lewis is a legend in the cooking world and our children of color need these role models. As I am learning to be culturally responsive to my students, I learned of Ms. Lewis and have found resources such as interviews and articles to add to my lessons. I have become a fan of Ms. Lewis and I think my students will be inspired by her too.
