Our school works with impoverished students. I teach a mix of charming and fun loving children, many of whom face some of life's biggest challenges and hurts. Each day brings them to school to a safe environment where they are greeted warmly and accepted as individuals. I try very hard to make our days positive and engaging. Each child has their own challenges and many are working below grade level. Furthermore, the problems that they face outside the classroom also impact their learning. Each and every child wants to learn and succeed. Due to their many needs and academic levels the traditional classroom approach leaves many falling further behind. I see my job as helping them on their way by doing everything in my power to teach what students need to know in second grade to move on as ready and eager third graders. This involves working with many, many academic levels at once as I try to find innovative and engaging ways to reach my students.
