The Nevada Academic Content Standard fulfilled by this project will be the Kindergarten - 5th Grade Library Foundational Standard 1, INQUIRE: Build new knowledge by inquiring, thinking critically, identifying problems, and developing strategies for solving problems. One issue I have noticed with our elementary students during these COVID times, is the reluctance to read independently for self-growth and strengthen comprehension skills. Research shows how important it is to prepare students for embracing the challenges of the future; while also acknowledging and addressing the current challenges of daily life. Research also states the importance of promoting daily independent reading to reinforce the skills and strategies that students are learning. These books and various incentives will become a strong motivational factor with promoting independent reading and comprehension growth with all of the students at our school. We will be able to use these items for the diverse population of students at our school; including those with special needs and other learning challenges.
