7th Grade Interactive Math Notebooks!
Funded Nov 17, 2014For weeks before my materials arrived I let my students know that I had a surprise coming for them. They loved the idea that there were people in the world who didn't even know them but were sending them a surprise in the mail that would make them smarter and make class time more effective. Once the materials arrived we began assembling our books by turning the last 10 pages into a vocabulary resource. I discussed with my students how even if they know how to divide if a question asks, "What is the quotient of 10 and 5?" they need to understand the language in order to demonstrate all that they know. This helped to hook students on the importance of learning and using math vocabulary.
Students use their notebooks in class each day to take notes and fill out graphic organizers. We recently wrapped up a unit on solving real world percent problems. Much of this unit focuses on helping students identify the part and whole in a problem. Using a beautiful foldable I purchased from Teachers Pay Teachers and the array of markers, tape, and scissors that this project provided them with, my students completed an anchor tool that they can refer back to each and every time they solve a percent problem. My students not only enjoy having class being more colorful and hands on but they are also truly using their interactive notebooks to interact with the math content and become masters!
I cannot thank you all enough- your support means so much to me and my students.”
