Drums Make the World Go Pound!

Funded Dec 18, 2013

Thank you so much for your generous gift. My students were very excited to see more new equipment arrive at school. They were so excited to get started working with the drums. They noticed the patterns and were saying that they looked similar to the Native American art they were studying in class. Even though they were based on African designs, it was thrilling to see them be able to tie it in to something they are learning outside of music.

My older students immediately began working on learning some rhythms that we could use to play on the drums. We then were able to add our xylophones and recorders. I was happy to see my students create an ensemble using the the instruments in class. The tubanos really added to the color of the music. I played a rhythm echo game with my younger students and they had a great time learning how to use the drums properly.

These drums have helped me out so much this past week. I was able to reinforce previously learned skills with my older students and introduce news skills to my younger students. Most importantly, everyone was able to have an instrument and to be engaged in learning. I can not wait to perform with these drums at our Black History Celebration.

Once again, thank you so much much for these instruments.”

With gratitude,

Mr. Thomas
