Seniors Need to Dress for Success
Funded May 8, 2024Thank you very much for your generous donations! Thanks to all of you, we were able to reward seniors with a brand new suit, shirt, tie and shoes! Not only did each student get an entire outfit, complete from head to toe, each student was able to go to the store for this shopping spree. Due to the circumstances of my students, this shopping experience and ability to browse, try on clothes and ultimately purchase an outfit of their choice was very special.
My students wore their outfits with pride to prom, I have the pictures as proof! Not only did these young men get to enjoy their prom feeling and looking their best, they now have an outfit that can be worn for special events in the future, including job interviews!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!”

Funded Jun 5, 2020This thank you note does not seem adequate to express the gratitude felt by the students and staff from Hillside Arts & Letters Academy. The graduating class of 2020 missed out on a lot of things, but your generosity helped them get something extra special during this difficult time. Students were both surprised and thrilled with their goody bag that included their key to to success key-chains and inspirational bracelets. Your donations allowed us to provide our students with something tangible, something that they can hold in their hands, look down at and smile.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!”

Bringing Technology Into The Classroom
Funded Apr 10, 2014Thank you so much for your generous donation! My classroom now has a printer with scanning ability and extra ink cartridges. It goes without saying that my students and I are beyond grateful! I started using the donated items on the very first day I received them.
My students were very excited when the package arrived and I explained that all of their future projects were going to be printed out in our classroom on our very own printer. The relief many felt was immeasurable. No longer would they lose points on their project rubrics for not having access to a printer. No longer would they worry if their project would be handed in on time due to not having a printer at home. It truly is a blessing for my students to have this technology available to them in their classroom.
In addition to being a printer, the donated technology has scanning ability as well. This tool has been extremely helpful as it allows me to scan to my personal computer and then project the image onto a large screen to differentiate for visual learners. Differentiating is key to successfully reaching all types of learners and the ability to scan has greatly increased my ability to differentiate.
Once again, I would like to thank you for your generous donation. My students and I will be forever grateful.”

How Can We Make Ecology Come Alive For City Dwellers?
Funded Dec 17, 2013Thank you so very much for your generous donation! My students were thrilled to be able to dissect an actual owl pellet! The excitement they felt was obvious as they carefully unwrapped the owl pellet. There was some trepidation as many were unsure as to what they would find inside. I remember the first group to uncover a skull as there was an audible gasp of disbelief. This hands on laboratory activity enabled my students to discover new and interesting information for themselves which I know they will remember for the years to come.”

Funded Nov 19, 2013Excitement was written all over my students' faces when they saw the brand new triple beam balances! Before they arrived, the only time my students saw triple beam balances was on worksheets, they had never been able to actually touch and manipulate one before. As I explained how we received the balances, my students expressed gratitude and maturity as they discussed how to safely and respectfully use them in class.
The first time we used the balances, we learned how to align the pointer, check the riders, manipulate the riders one at a time, and how to calculate the mass. We measured the mass of books, shoes, soil for planting seeds, wooden blocks and clay blocks that the students created.
The triple beam balances have brought a level of understanding to my students that I was unable to achieve using pen and paper worksheets. They have all had chances to use the balance and accurately measure mass. Your generous donation has made this concept come alive for my students as it allowed them to touch, feel and actually do. All of my students have truly benefited from this donation and have enjoyed using the balances. As one of my students said, "This is way better than trying to do it on a worksheet!" A true science lab experience was had by all and will continue to be had in the future. Now that my students have mastered how to calculate mass the next step will be using that skill to master calculating density. As an educator, I am beyond grateful for your generosity.”
