The students in my classroom are young, curious, and come from families with a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. With our Kindergarten cut off being November 1st, I have a variety of 4-6 year old students coming into my classroom. Our school is in a high poverty district in the middle of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Most students are on free and reduced lunch and require many low income services. As a new teacher I struggle with the diverse age groups coming in to my classroom. I want to provide them with a more hands on approach to learning. My students strive and succeed when they are given the chance to explore their environment while engaging in social, language and mathematic skills at the same time.
