Laptop for Learning and Growing
Funded Sep 18, 2024I cannot thank you enough for supporting our classroom by purchasing this laptop for us.
The beautiful thing about teaching 3 year olds is almost everything is NEW to them. As we enter each new unit or topic I can expose them to new images, videos, and websites with information about that topic. For example, when we explored buildings on a walking tour around our school, we took pictures of many building features. Then I shared them on this laptop and printed them to add to the blocks center and other centers for reference. We also used it to explore buildings in other communities to compare the differences to the buildings we see in our own community. Soon we will do similar work in our clothing unit.
Additionally, I use this computer for communication with my students' families and to share pictures with them. I am so grateful to have this new laptop.”

Funded Jan 17, 2024Kindergarten is a time to learn but it is still a crucial time for the brain to learn through play. It takes a lot of time and effort to create quality materials for engaging lessons.
Pendulums are swinging in approaches to teaching reading. As New York City chooses new published curriculum to match current research about how young brains learn to both decode words AND build comprehension skills, teachers have been creating materials to use in their lessons. Thanks to the brilliant website Teachers Pay Teachers, some creative teachers are sharing their hard work with other teachers. I've been able to use your donations to purchase well made products that match my Kindergarten standards to teach reading, math, and other center activities on Teachers Pay Teachers. Thank you for the play based materials. My students are making tremendous strides in reading independently, writing, and loving math.”

Funded Jan 18, 2024I am so grateful for your generous donations. My Kindergarten students were so happy as we opened each box as they arrived. They are excited to write using different writing tools. Their writing has grown so much across this school year. The beauty of Kindergarten is they grow from only knowing how to write a few letters to writing 2-3 sentences. Today we wrote thank you notes to the Earth for Earth Day.
Also, their fine motor skills and creativity grows each time they use play dough. They are 5 years old and need to build their cute little hand muscles. They do this through play and art. They were thrilled for the big buckets of brand new play dough colors. Thank you! They made leprechauns out of green, rain drops out of the blue and sunshines out of the yellow. And, of course, they make a lot of pretend cookies and pizza every day during centers.”

Funded Jan 11, 2023I apologize for the late reply, but the students in my class were thrilled at the arrival of our new colorful furniture that holds differentiated math and literacy centers. They know each bin has a different game or activity that is perfect for them to work with and grow. They know what color bin to choose and the activities inside are aligned with standards that they need some fun independent practice with to master or solidify. This simple way to organize the materials will last for years in my classroom. I am sure I will find great ways to use it for many groups of kiddos for years to come. I truly appreciate your generosity.”

Funded Sep 5, 2021I want to thank you so much for the seat sacks you provided for our class. Many of the students in my class have never been in a school setting prior to this year. Many others spent most of their lives at home with their families during the pandemic. This became obvious in the beginning of the year because their fine motor skills and independence skills were not similar to what I had seen in previous years teaching early education. One of the many things we teach in Kindergarten is independent skills. The seat sacks have helped me to teach them how to take care of their own materials, organize them, find them, and to be responsible for them.
I also love how neat it keeps our classroom because there are not piles of supplies to pass out for every lesson. It is also saving time at the beginning and end of each lesson.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity. The past two years of teaching has been challenging and ever-changing. Your kindness makes a huge impact.”

Mrs. Kelly
Laptops for Research Skills - Part 2
Funded Mar 17, 2018It is with sincere gratitude that I write this letter. When I wrote this grant for 8 new laptops for my library to improve research skills, I knew it would make an impact, but I am still surprised by how engaged our students are in their research. Some students who are hesitant to check out or read a book during library, will read nonstop for 30-40 minutes in front of their new laptops. So many resources will also read aloud to children which helps to level the playing field. Age appropriate materials are now achievable and within reach of their reading level.
Many of our students research skills were limited to "Googling it" and searching YouTube to gather information. Now they are able to use some of our library time to explore free databases to explore topics of interest. Students are researching people, products, places, and animals. They know that the sources they find in a database are reliable and vetted. Soon they will learn how to site them in a bibliography.
In the future students and teachers will be able to use library time as a space to not only explore literature, but to explore curriculum and interest topics in depth online. Keeping up with technology and updated resources helps create a more equitable education for all and will help prepare them for high school and beyond.
Thank you so much for your generosity.”
