Students Need Seat Options to Help With Sensory Needs!
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation that helped to fund our sensory seating project. The students in our classroom have been able to use the different furniture items throughout the past several months and it has made a profound impact positively on their ability to stay focused on lessons, remain engaged in the curriculum, as well as assist in social situations. Students love the independence of swapping out their regular desk seating for a wobble stool when they face frustration or are becoming distracted.
When the students first saw the items in the classroom they were shocked and went directly to the Cozy Corner in the classroom to try them out. Many a day since, you'll find a student cuddled up in the classroom library reading a book on the reading seat cushion. It's a favorite spot during Choice Time - so much so we implemented a rotation system so that every student has their turn!
Thanks to your donation, you've helped to improve our students' access to high quality education. When the students in our class are better able to focus, and have choices from where to complete their work, they are all the more successful! Thank you so much!! Please view some of the photos and thank you notes written by students in the attachments!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martin

Funded Aug 27, 2013Thanks so much for your generous gift! Now that the year is well under way, I wanted to take the time to let you know how the students have benefited from the resources you helped us receive. Each morning, the class participates in a Content Area S.S. Workshop, in which they receive small group instruction and cycle through S.S. centers. We began the year studying the Native Americans in NY and have now proceeded to Dutch New Amsterdam. My students have repeatedly mentioned how this is their favorite part of the day and that they love participating in these S.S. centers. In specific, they like using the Explorer's Artifact box in order to access content about Henry Hudson and other explorers of North America.
Students cycle through centers that are comprised of the resources you helped fund, such as the Image Sorting Center, the Map Center, the Artifact Center, and a Close Reading Center, all of which are housed in our handy Center's Display, which was also part of our funded project. Each student in the class benefits from these resources when they go to centers on an alternating daily schedule.
This project has clearly boosted my students' understanding of the content thus far in that the resources are colorful, engaging and promote a higher level of understanding then just reading the facts from print could achieve. Students are able to pair these artifacts with related texts in order to deepen their understanding of the content. We are looking forward to diving into the American Revolution and Immigration in NY soon!
Thanks again for your generous support!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martin
