Through reading the Narrative of Frederick Douglass my students will understand the political, social and economic issues surrounding the development of the plantation system. Students will understand the attitudes and treatment of slaves from the first hand experience of Frederick Douglass. Students will also see the hope, determination of one man to change a flawed system. Many of my students don't feel that they have a voice or a say in society today. What can one person do and how can they make a real difference. I believe, that through the reading of this book and discussions we will have my students will see how one person can be a leader for change in society
