These books are for read aloud times where we can have class discussions about community, voice, and standing up to make a change. During these controversial times it's important to teach the children how to form their own opinions, look at situations from multiple perspectives, and help them develop their own voices. I'd like to use this quality literature to launch their ideas. Inspiring students to be their personal best through good literature is my objective. Seeing children from a variety of cultures will both teach tolerance and help them find role models who look like themselves. Students will feel connected. They will have shared the experience of hearing the book together. These experiences help the students make connections with their own lives to the lives of the characters in the story. When they share these connections the other students also can relate at a deeper level. The books in my cart are diverse. There are some biographies of African American athletes and community leaders. There are picture books about students from a variety of countries. There are also stories to help me teach social and emotional issues such as anxiety. I'm hoping through your donation to enhance my students lives and experiences through literature during this isolating time. The connections these books can create will help them feel connected with each other even from a distance. When we get to return to the classroom these books will be available in my library for them to check out and read. Thank you ahead of time.
