  • Geometry Kids Constructing a Better Future!

    Funded Dec 10, 2015

Thank you all so very much for funding this project in less than a week! I'm so very grateful for your donation. It's especially nice this time of year, in the season of giving, to see the goodwill and generosity of others. Of all the tools, compasses are what my classroom needs the most!

Just this week, we were trying to test using the cheap compasses provided by the school and they kept breaking. Students had to share the few unbroken compasses. I was running around the classroom taping the compasses back together and coordinating who could use one when. The process was stressul and not ideal for students to succeed. Starting in January, the students and I will be putting these compasses to use! Because of your donation, every student will have a well-built compass they can use and not have to worry about sharing with a neighbor or breaking it by accident. Thank you for prioritizing education and helping to buy my students quality tools that they wouldn't be able to afford on their own.

Hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holiday. Thank you for spreading the love and supporting students in Arizona.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hill

  • Rock Out Algebra 1

    Funded Sep 7, 2013

I wanted to report back on how the binders, dividers and markers have impacted our classroom. Every student has been given a personalized marker! We do lots of whiteboard math activities where they have to show their work, step-by-step and hold it up for me and other students to check.

The binders and dividers have been assigned to my extensions students. These students are in a remedial math class to bring them to grade level. Every student has a place to do their daily bell work, take notes during direct instruction, record their work on the computer, and to keep all of their quizzes and exams.

These small additions have made a huge difference in the feel of our classroom. Students have been taking their assignments and notes more seriously. Grades have improved and we have been able to track our growth in a more organized system.

Thank you all for making a difference in my classroom that we get to enjoy daily. When I told the students that family, friends and even strangers took the time to donate money for them to have binders, they were so grateful.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Hill

My school is a Title 1 school, meaning it has a student population that is 70% free and reduced lunch. The majority of my students are living at the poverty level. 53% of students in our state do not take the classes they need to get into a university. I intend to break that trend by creating strong relationships with students and their families, and educating them on why they should be striving to take upper-level math and science courses in high school. Part of this will be making sure my Algebra 1 classroom is as effective as possible.
