Reading Carpet
Funded Sep 29, 2022Thank you so much for donating the rug! It has changed our class dramatically. First of all, it looks great in the room. The building is a little run down and the rug brightens the whole room. Another benefit to having this rug is I'm now able to have the kids gather on the rug so I can model activities and show them how to use particular materials. The most important way the rug has changed our classroom is that it has given my students the needed space to choose appropriate books for themselves so they can enjoy reading. Prior to having the rug, the kids would stand by the bookshelf and generally choose books based on covers alone, but now they can sit down, read the first page or two, and take their time to choose books they will like and are excited to read. Lastly, the kids love it! It is nice and new, and they are in awe that a stranger bought it for them. They really want to know who you are so if you are willing to reveal your identity, I know they'd be thrilled.
Thank you so much!!”

Funded Nov 10, 2020I can't thank you enough for donating to my class. The impact has been tremendous. It's no secret that NYC is loud and apartments are tiny. Therefore, students often have to share their workspaces with siblings or other adults that are home. We hear sirens, TVs, phone conversations, etc. Sometimes when a student unmutes, their background noise is so loud and uncomfortable to listen to, we have to mute them and I wonder how the student can focus at all. On some occasions, we hear parents whispering answers to their kids during instruction and sometimes during assessments, too. So, when students are wearing the headphones, not only are they are more engaged in the lesson because they can hear clearly, but now I know nobody in their home can hear my questions and I know their responses are their own. This allows me see what the students know and what they need to work on. I need that information to do my job effectively.
The kids LOVE the headphones. They feel mature and serious when they are wearing them, and they love hearing how they look like astronauts and airplane pilots. It was so fun to see their reactions the first time they wore them.
Thank you all so much! You have helped so much more than I am able to explain.”

Quiet Pencil Sharpener Needed, Please!
Funded Oct 20, 2013I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your generous donations. Because of your generosity, I have been able to enhance my students' learning experience.
The books were extremely helpful for teaching Science and Social Studies. I work at a charter school in East Harlem and we often don't have enough resources. In fact, my grade doesn't have ANY resources for teaching both subjects. This meant that teachers were required to find all the resources via Internet, book stores, etc. This cost us a lot of time which could have been spent thinking and planning direct instruction, and it also cost us a lot of money. The school doesn't reimburse us for classroom materials (outside of our initial set up costs).
Due to our pacing, we have only used the science books for learning about the human body. I'm sure you can imagine an 8 year olds excitement when it comes to learning about the digestive system. I heard plenty of "ew" and "gross" comments but they were riveted! I cannot express the difference in student engagement with the use of these reading materials. Thank you so much!
I would like to encourage you to continue to donate to Donor's Choose. It has made a difference in my students' lives and learning experiences. Thank you again!!!”

Ms. Jen
