I teach 5th grade in a title I school with a 99 percent Hispanic population. My students are from low income families where both parents are typically working one to two jobs and have little time to help their children with their education. Many parents cannot help their children even if they do have time because most of them only speak Spanish. My students are fully capable and willing to work hard for their education but sadly have not had the right resources or support and have fallen far behind where they should be academically. This places them on the wrong side of the opportunity gap.
