  • Snacks and More!

    Funded Mar 2, 2022

It was my goal to establish a much-needed snack and incentive corner in order to provide a healthy snacks to my students between breakfast and lunch on a daily basis. Having a snack between meals prevents you from becoming so hungry that you reach for unhealthy junk food. Many of my students do not have a healthy breakfast at home so they tend to start getting hungry before lunchtime. Our new area has provided opportunities for my kiddos engage in healthy snacking as needed. Thank you for taking an interest in our project and our kiddos. Thanks to you I have been able to hand out a daily snack to my students during our recess time. This has helped students to stay on task and focused as they engage in their educational endeavors.”

  • Promoting Racial Equity through STEAM Activities

    Funded Sep 27, 2021

The goal of this project was to promote and encourage the emotional health and mental well-being of my students as we take part in remote learning due to the present-day health crisis. Thanks to your kind generosity, our project has become a reality and we will begin the school year participating in social emotional journaling breaks. I plan to provide my students with the materials and opportunity to engage in daily social emotional learning (SEL) skills acquisition by engaging in fun journaling activities daily. These skills are foundational for social and emotional well-being and are of paramount importance during these trying times. Thanks to your contributions, the students have the basic scissors and other supplies that have helped them. Thank you for taking an interest in our project and our kiddos education and well-being. You are appreciated!"”

I have to start by saying that the school where I teach is very special to me. It was the same elementary school I attended as a child. The neighborhood has changed but the feeling you get when you are there has not. The building itself was built in 1944 and has been added as one of the cities' historical monuments. You will find a "melting pot" of students here that care for one another and are not afraid to show where they are from. We are a Title I school and 90% are on free or reduced lunch. They come from broken homes or families that have been separated because they came to the US looking for a better life. Yet this does not stop their eagerness to learn and succeed. For some, the language barrier seems difficult but yet I see their love for it and what they can become.
