My students are the hardest working and some of the most high achieving students at my school. However, many do so despite the challenges of speaking and writing English as a second language and living in one of the highest poverty areas of our county. Many are honor roll students with high aspirations and will be the 1st of their families to attend college and in some cases, even graduate high school. Because they are yearbook students and must cover all school events, they live each day with a self-sacrificing spirit. They commit to longer school days, as they stay late for sport and social events. A few of them even start early and stay late, as they take zero-period physical education, which allows for them to have two electives. They are proud to be yearbook students and are determined to fundraise this year so that they can buy more equipment and also provide a yearbook themed t-shirt for each yearbook student on order to display their pride and promote our yearbook.
