Learning Through Play
Funded Aug 14, 2013Thank you so much for funding this project. My students love our dramatic centers. They enjoy pretending to cook, playing with our new dolls and animals, working at the supermarket checkout, and taking care of animals at the animal hospital.
Play is very important in my kindergarten classroom and now we have everything we need for my students to create imaginary words and play with each other as they learn basic socialization skills. It is wonderful to hear their conversations as they negotiate different roles in the dramatic play centers.”

Big Books For Small Children
Funded Aug 12, 2013What a great impact your generous donation did for my class! It's because of you that reading has become enjoyable for my little four and five year old students.
When my students received the big books they were excited! When I read the books over and over again to them, they smile and say to me, "Read more! read it again Ms. Verwayne!" Oh what a joy to hear kids say these words. They are also excited to get a chance to pretend that they are the teacher and read the books to each other. That too is a beautiful thing to see my students doing.
We use the big books a lot during our reading workshops, story time, or literacy center time. When I'm teaching reading and it's story time, and I need to make a teaching point, it's great to have the big books so that students can see the text no matter where they sit. During literacy center time, the students can reread the books that I have read to them a couple of times to each other, or they can use the books to identify sight words that were taught to them.
This project has boost my teaching and my students' learning a lot. The fact that my students are asking me to read more, or read again is a great way to get my students to love reading and that alone is a precious gift. So thank you very much.”

Ms. Verwayne
