Funded Feb 12, 2025Having a document camera in the classroom has greatly enhanced learning for my diverse 7th-grade students across all content areas. It allows me to model problem-solving strategies in math, annotate texts in English, and demonstrate science experiments in real time. This visual approach helps all students, particularly those who benefit from step-by-step instruction. English language learners and students with different learning styles can follow along more effectively, reinforcing comprehension and engagement. By projecting materials onto the screen, I can ensure that every student sees the same clear, detailed example, reducing confusion and improving overall understanding.
The document camera has also fostered collaboration and active participation in the classroom. Students can share their work with the entire class, providing opportunities for discussion, peer feedback, and deeper learning. In history and science, we have used the camera to examine primary sources, diagrams, and models, making abstract concepts more tangible. This tool has been especially beneficial for students who may struggle with traditional methods of instruction, as they can visually and interactively engage with the content in a way that suits their learning needs.
Beyond academics, the document camera has helped build student confidence. When students see their own work displayed and discussed, they feel a greater sense of accomplishment and motivation. It encourages them to take pride in their efforts and participate more actively in class discussions. For my diverse group of learners, having access to this technology has created a more inclusive and supportive learning environment, where every student has the opportunity to succeed and feel valued.”

Funded Dec 31, 2024Having headphones in the classroom has made a significant impact on my diverse 7th-grade students across all content areas. Many of my students learn best with individualized instruction, and headphones allow them to engage with digital resources at their own pace. Whether they are listening to audiobooks in English class, watching instructional math videos, or following along with science experiments, headphones provide a personalized learning experience that meets their unique needs. This has been especially beneficial for English language learners and students with learning differences, as they can replay instructions and focus without distractions.
In addition to enhancing individualized learning, headphones have helped create a more focused and productive classroom environment. With students accessing various online platforms and educational programs, background noise can easily become a challenge. Headphones help minimize distractions, allowing students to concentrate on their work without being affected by the sounds of their peers. This has been particularly useful during independent work time and assessments, where students need a quiet space to think critically and complete assignments effectively.
Beyond academics, headphones have also supported students' emotional well-being. Many of my students face challenges outside of school, and having the ability to listen to calming music or guided mindfulness exercises has provided them with a much-needed sense of peace and focus. Additionally, students who struggle with sensory overload can use headphones to control their auditory environment, making them feel more comfortable in the classroom. Overall, providing headphones has empowered my students to take ownership of their learning, stay engaged, and succeed in all content areas.”

Fun Materials for Small Math Groups
Funded Jan 23, 2024Thank you so much for your generous donations to our math class. With the funding of this project, Fun Materials for Small Math Groups, you made it possible for math class to run smoothly! Students now have quick and easy access to dry erase markers, erasers, calculators and pencils to show their work. The class work time flows so much quicker because the materials are right there for the students to access. They are showing their work more and they are excited to do so! I couldn't be happier. Your support is so appreciated!”

Funded Jan 4, 2024We can't thank you enough for funding our getting organized and rewarded Donors Choose project. This project has been instrumental in making sure our students have the binders and materials necessary to be organized in class. Our students are loving the bright colors of the binders and have been excited to organize their materials with quality binders. They are also loving the rewards associated with being organized- lead pencils! Thank you for helping our 7th graders work on their executive functioning. This is a skill that will last forever!”

Funded Oct 30, 2023Starting the school year off is always a challenge. We never know our students needs, especially this year when we had 25 students who were new to the country.
In the core subjects we use a mix of small group and whole group instruction. This project was instrumental in making sure we had enough headphones so all students had access to the curriculum at their level. I was also able to work with students in small groups or one-on-one, while other students were working independently with their headphones.
In math, students could have the questions read to them aloud and in science they were able to watch videos to further explain concepts in English and Spanish. During ESL, the headphones allowed students to learn at their own rate on a reading program that is online.
Having this project funded made the learning easier for all of our students. We can't thank you enough!”

Funded Sep 23, 2021We have been using IXL since the beginning of the year and are so thankful to have it as a resource. Not only are our students getting the necessary skills to push them to the next level, but they are able to practice these skills at home until they reach mastery. This year our 6th graders have answered over 65,000 targeted math problems with IXL! It has been such a great resource to use in school and when the students are at home. Regardless of where they are answering the questions, we are able to monitor them and give them important feedback. I hope that we are able to continue to use IXL next year!”

Funded Dec 30, 2018I can't thank you enough for your generosity. This project couldn't have been funded at a better time! Headphones with a microphone are a rarity at my school and are essential to my ESL classes. The microphones are helpful when having the students do speaking exercises and the headphones are essential in many of the on-line programs we use to get students greater access to reading materials at their independent level. This year I have not been able to do the activities I wanted to because of a lack of resources and now that is no longer a problem! Since getting the headphones two days ago, my students have used them daily. It's been very exciting.
As a Special Education and ESL teacher who travels from class to class, the other materials like sharpened pencils, expo markers and erasers have been a huge help. I am constantly running to find pencils, stopping at the store on my way home and now I have everything I need at my fingertips. Another highlight of the project is the figit helpers, like the band for the chairs and the stress balls. The students have loved this addition to our class and work hard because they know they can use them if they are on track. They have been a great motivator.
I really can't thank you enough. Your donation has impacted our most needy students and I am so appreciative. It feels great knowing we have such a nice supportive community.”

Materials Make My English Language Learners Smile!
Funded Dec 5, 2017I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends, family and donors that truly value education. I think that we have to be creative these days in order to access all that we can for our kids and their future. Donors Choose is an amazing vehicle for this. Your very thoughtful and generous donation has allowed me to start this project that has benefited my class of 22 this year, but will continue to benefit my future students as well. This impact is truly immeasurable.
It is amazing to have the materials I need right away. Being able to show videos in my classroom makes my lessons really engaging to students. They can all hear what the video is saying without having to strain their ears.
Having access to a color printer has changed everything. I can quickly print out student papers from Google Classroom as well as materials that support the learning going on in class. I don't have to wait for the school printer to open up, and most importantly I don't need to leave my class. I have everything I need at my fingertips!
The students in my class are thrilled to be able to learn something in a different way. Many of my students are English Language Learners so being able to show them videos of the different concepts we are learning is essential to their ability to learn and understand English. It is extremely helpful to be able to print them out color copies of different texts!
I definitely have noticed that my students' motivation to learn new concepts has increased when I use the technology that has been generously donated from Donor Choose. It's more exciting and it seems like the concepts are more relevant to them. The added technology has definitely changed how I teach!
I truly cannot express how grateful my students and I are to have participated in this project. I can spend more time working with my students instead of pulling resources together because I lack the technology and materials to make the curriculum accessible to all my students. I sincerely thank you!”

Scholastic News Will Make My Inclusion Class More Informed!
Funded Sep 18, 2017I feel so lucky to have such amazing friends, family and donors that truly value education.
We now have a grade level set of Scholastic News and materials like chart paper, art supplies and student supplies to make student learning and teacher preparation easier! The Scholastic News magazine have been a highly engaging way to increase my students reading comprehension in a fun and exciting way. Because I have ordered two levels of Scholastic News every student in my class has access to the reading! They are reading about current events and then writing about them. With the chromebooks and headphones, I am able to now show videos to my students that benefit them in all aspects of the curriculum. For example, in reading I have my level 1 English Language Learners read Scholastic News in Spanish, then they watch a video in English about the topic and then read the same article in English. They are able to have the magazine read aloud to them with the chromebooks. It is amazing! When they are finished they are able to write complete sentences in English about what they read. They are so excited to learn this way because they are learning about the same content as their peers but in a different way.
Our 5th grade just finished Opinion Essays where the students choose an argument to follow from 4 different Scholastic News magazines. This was such a powerful activity to help students not only develop their own voice in their writing, but help them be better writers. Scholastic News has given the students common topics to talk about. We are constantly referring back to articles we have read because so many of them supported our unit on Human Rights. It was nice having the information right there and current so the students were able to see that what they read is important.
It is amazing to have the materials I need right away. To have chart paper that sticks to the wall without needing tape definitely cuts down on my time and ability to get my students ideas hung up and showcased.
I definitely have noticed that my students' motivation to learn new concepts has increased when I use the materials that has been generously donated from Donor Choose. It's more exciting and it seems like the concepts are more relevant to them. The added technology has definitely changed how I teach!
I truly cannot express how grateful my students and I are to have participated in this project. I can spend more time working with my students instead of pulling resources together because I lack the materials to make the curriculum accessible to all my students. I sincerely thank you!”
