Verse by Verse
Funded Oct 21, 2021After receiving our books, I immediately had them in students' hands. Some titles even have a waiting list.
Books in verse help readers to become less intimidated. Because of fewer words on the page, more white space, and engaging stories, books in verse help them to be more successful and more engaged. And that is exactly what happened with these books.
Because of your donation to our classroom, I have students who are wanting to read and are enjoying the books we received. This is a win in any reading teacher's playbook.
Thank you for helping me to create a love of reading for those students who are hard to reach. We are very grateful.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Eck

Funded Aug 11, 2021Thank you so much for donating to our "Sittin' with Nonfiction" project. Not all students are fiction readers. This project has given my students another alternative and has added a new level of reading engagement to our classroom. They are loving the History Smashers series, the baseball biographies, and the science comics.
I love watching our classroom library grow with more choices for all students. Your donation has played a big part in that growth and will continue to give students opportunities to grow as readers, too!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Eck
Reading - A Pathway to Discovery
Funded Mar 11, 2021Thank you for supporting our project. I am excited to add these new titles to our book club selections. Book clubs allow my students to read a common text and share their thinking and insights. Middle schoolers love to talk, and book clubs encourage deep literary discussions.
The books in this specific project will help my students on a path of discovery - a path to build empathy by reading about the experiences and hardships of other kids their own age.
Building literacy experiences in my classroom help my students to see the world from another's viewpoint and understand the world outside of our four walls.
Thank you again for supporting my classroom and for supporting literacy.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Eck
Hope - A Gift from Literature
Funded Sep 23, 2019Thank you for your donation toward my "Hope - A Gift from Literature. My plan is to create a reading unit that includes books with the same theme of hope. Many of my students have big obstacles to overcome. It is my hope that through this project, they will read about characters who have overcome similar obstacles and have persevered.
Through reading these books, they will understand that they are not alone when it comes to homelessness, poverty, the loss of a loved one, low self-esteem, mental health issues, terminal illness, and many more.
With your donation, they will receive the gift of hope.”

Mrs. Eck
A Place for Poetry
Funded Mar 29, 2017Thank you for funding our poetry project. My students were going through the box like it was Christmas time, oohing and aahing over each title.
Poetry is not for everyone, but students should have the opportunity to experience what poetry can offer. Because of your donation to our poetry project, my students are able to lose themselves between the pages of free verse, haiku, and rhymes while trying to figure out their new life as a middle schooler.
My students' lives are not easy, but spending some time with a poem can bring a smile to their face and make their day just a little bit brighter.”

Mrs. Eck

Funded Nov 4, 2016Thank you so much for funding our nonfiction project. I have many readers who devour fiction, but many of those students seem to avoid reading nonfiction. Because of this project, I am able to surround my students with engaging and interesting nonfiction for middle school students.
My students have begun reading these books and are learning more about the atrocities of Hitler and the way slaves were treated. They have learned about the courage of the Navajo Indians, the Freedom Walkers, and Jane Goodall. Most importantly, they have learned the importance and the joy of being a reader of nonfiction.
Thank you again for supporting literacy. My students and I appreciate your generosity.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Eck
Every Child Deserves a Literacy Experience
Funded Mar 9, 2016Dear Donors,
Our students today have so many things to worry about. With your donations, I am able to place great literature in their hands and provide a collaborative setting in which to share their reading. You have given them a precious gift, a gift of time away from their problems, an escape from the everyday to a new world of imagination, adventure, and happy endings.
When we opened the boxes, it was like Christmas. I heard shouts of "I want to read this one!" and "Look, here is one by Gordon Korman." and "When do we get to read these?"
That is one of the best parts of being a reading teacher. I get to see the smiles on their faces when they connect with a character or get to an exciting part in the story. And for that moment, when they are lost within the pages of a book, I become thankful. Thankful to you for making these experiences happen.
Because every child deserves a literacy experience.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Eck
Can We Talk?
Funded Nov 25, 2015I am excited to announced that my students recently completed our first round of book clubs. Your donation of these books gave them the opportunity to read great literature and share their reading experience with their friends and classmates.
Here are a few of their comments:
"There were so many interesting parts in The Walk On that I didn't want to put the book down."
"Crossover was very dramatic and one of those that keeps you reading."
"Circus Mirandus was very different from the novels I was and am reading. It was a great book."
"The Maze Runner had a sense of adventure, action, dread, sadness, and a lot more. It was a book that can bring out emotions."
My students loved this opportunity and can't wait to participate again!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Eck
