  • Shooting for Success

    Funded Sep 20, 2018

As soon as the supplies came in, I was able to surprise the teacher running the basketball camp. The teacher could not explain in words how grateful she was knowing that she only had one old basketball to work with 10 students. The students also had to waste time going to the water fountain or remember to bring their own water bottles to ensure they were staying hydrated.

The students were excited to open up the basketballs and use the water bottles. They have taken on responsibilities to take care of the new basketballs as well as cleaning and storing the water bottles. They are able to have one basketball a piece to utilize the time they stay after to learn new skills.

The students are engaged and wanting to come to practice to learn new skills. We are teaching and working with the students on foundational basketball skills they would not have learned for many years. We are also able to get the students to join an after school program to show that we care outside of the classroom.”

  • Nurture Our Future With Personal Care Items

    Funded Aug 26, 2018

What a wonderful way to give back to our community. The students in 4th grade were able to work on a passion project. They all chose to do research and do a project based community project for homelessness. With this being said, because of the donations that were given, we were able to pack not only individual bags for students and families within our school, but we were able to pack bags for our individual students to take with them. The students were able to see what impact they created when passing these bags out to the community members in need. The bags they made for individual use will be used to provide any person on the street a bag when they look in need.

With this project, my 4th grade students were able to think beyond themselves and help the community by giving not just tangible items, but love to all people that need it. They were able to show the community that there are people who care and want to do what is right to those who may be struggling. This passion project would not have been such a success without your donation.

Thank you for thinking outside of the box for our student's needs and for helping our students impact the community!”

  • Resources for the Resource Room

    Funded Mar 27, 2018

I have had the privilege of working with many students over the past 10 school years. While working with students, supplies such as markers, anchor charts, and filing items are crucial to keeping organized, but best to make sure that the students are being engaged.

While students are producing magnificent pieces of school work and showing how much they learn, I am able to take their work and file it in their own organization system. At the end of the school year, students love to see what they have learned, how well they have performed, and how much growth they have made.

Students need to see bright colors and have anchor charts around the classroom to help them stay engaged and work with new standards. The students love to use the colored markers, see the artwork by their different teachers, and work hard to use the strategies shown on these charts. By using markers and anchor charts, a teacher is able to post anything from classroom procedures to the latest steps on how to solve a math problem. Having visuals for all students help maintain independency and having the students work for proficiency towards their individual goals.”

  • Reading for the Resource Room

    Funded Dec 21, 2017

I want to first thank you for helping fund books for my students. My students are students with disabilities and often it is hard to find engaging books they can read at their level. This grant helps create these engaging lessons for my students that need a different approach to teaching reading.

I work in small groups with many of my students. This gives me the opportunity to work on skills and strategies that each individual student needs to help them become successful with reading. The books that were funded help me do just that. I am able to teach non-fiction and fiction skills at the student's instructional reading level. This not only boosts the students confidence when reading, but it allows them to learn at their current level and gain the knowledge they need to transfer to grade level tasks.

The books have made a big difference. My students love to see different resources coming into the school. I am able to teach them about generosity through the donations you were able to make to my project. The books are very special to us knowing that another cares about our reading and wants all of us to do well. This adds to the engagement the student has when I get to tell them that we are using a book from this grant.”

  • Reading Strategies for Reading Groups

    Funded Jul 15, 2016

    To whom it may concern,

First, thank you for your generous donation to this professional development project. The books we requested will help teachers with their reading groups and strategies with each student. Not only will we teach reading, but the why about reading while using this book. As you can tell in the pictures, many teachers have already come together to discuss the strategies, tabbed their books, and started mini lessons. We are highlighting, tabbing, discussing, and taking notes over what works and what doesn't work while teaching these strategies in small groups.

Many of the lessons presented have been in groups of 3-4 students, and on occasion these groups have reached 10 students. The lessons are from fluency to decoding to comprehension skills. We have currently been focused on fiction story elements in our lessons. In three weeks, we will be using some of the non-fiction strategies to help with our students.

One of my favorite moments with this book so far has been teaching fluency, my students are really using the strategy I taught. If another student is struggling, the other students are reminding them of the strategy! This tells me that it is working and we are already progressing in our reading levels!!

Thanks again for your donation. Many students will be impacted and bridge a gap between them and their peers in reading.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lamb

  • Resources for the Resource Room

    Funded Apr 25, 2016

    To whom this may concern,

I wanted to first thank you for your generous donation towards our supplies for the classroom. We are already able to implement the anchor chart boards, folders, markers, and pens into our reading groups to make the students become better engaged. Seeing the work on a chart, using markers or pens to write, and helping our students stay organized is key to their success. You will even notice we write on the desks to help them learn and understand in new ways.

When we received the materials, my heart melted. School supplies is like Christmas morning for a school teacher. When the students saw their brand new folders and what they can start using in their reading groups, they loved it! They began to share their supplies and wanted to do more while in groups.

The next steps are to keep the students organized with the folders and think of new creative ways to use the supplies everyday in the class.

Thank you again for your donation. This has made teaching more enjoyable when you see the students wanting to participate all because of new supplies.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lamb

  • Read It, To Believe It!

    Funded Sep 18, 2014

When receiving these books, it was like Christmas morning. Knowing that people care about reading as much as me is a mood booster. I couldn't hold my excitement in, so I had to show the students the books as soon as I organized them. When they first saw all the books, they didn't know what to do. Then they started picking out what books they wanted to read in reading group.

We are using these books while in reading groups. We have been reading the books while in groups and working on comprehension and reading skills. The students are very engaged in learning about the stories. The students are excited to keep reading more books by the author.

When I received the books, all I could think of was the lessons I could teach with them. I am excited to show them new authors in a fun and exciting way. I believe that this project will help boost my teaching and the students' learning in big ways. The students' reaction to knowing that other people wanted to give them a gift was priceless.

Thank you for your donations. The books are a great resource for my students and help them get resources at their levels in their hands. We are reading more this year in class than we have read in the past. The students are loving the books we are using in class.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Lamb
