  • Learning From Home Resources

    Funded Aug 20, 2020

Thank-you all so much for your donations! We have been using the items you donated in various ways. I use the white board daily for a writing prompt, daily message, drawing, sounding out words, etc. It has really been a life saver for me. This board has been so helpful for me. The students also benefit from the board because they can see it much better than a piece of paper or notebook. The students use their pencil bags of supplies on a daily basis and it it great for them to take with them to and from their homes and family members as needed.

The students had no idea that they were getting anything and were thrilled to see that others care about them and their education. The students are so eager to learn and thankful for the supplies to help them learn. They are happy to have extra supplies to use just for fun. They also enjoy when I draw on the large white board and laugh at my silly drawings. This week the students are working on family projects that include making and decorating a stocking to be hung on our virtual website/fireplace and a family holiday cards to be sent to nursing homes and the less fortunate.

When we return to school we will be working on making Doves of Peace placemats for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This is something I make every year on donate to the soup kitchen. The students love to work on this project and share words of peace and love with others. I can't wait to see what they create also! Thank-you again for your kindness.โ€

  • Time for Technology

    Funded Feb 20, 2017

Thank-you so much for your donations. My students are so very thankful for all your donations and support. Most of them do not get very much parental support so knowing that other people care means so much to them.

The headphones and the additional items for the tablets we already had donated have made such a difference in my classroom. The students really enjoy using the extra tablets and headphones.

I just wanted to thank-you for all of your support for this project and all of the previous projects I have posted.โ€

  • Let's Make Writing Fun!

    Funded Aug 23, 2016

Thank-you so much for your donations. My students LOVE having new supplies. They really enjoy the gel pens and the crayons. They are doing wonderful writing in their notebooks that are just for them. The students are really working on practicing spelling words using the white board markers. I am super thankful for the glue sticks! We go through TONS of glue sticks in first grade!!!

When the supplies arrived the students had no idea what was in the boxes. When I opened the boxes and showed them the new supplies they were so excited to see how much people they didn't even know care about them and their education. I had one student say "Wow, you have some really nice friends", and she is correct!

We are continuing to use the supplies everyday! They get very excited when I open a new pack of gel pens or more white board markers. I am so happy I got to experience this with them. Thank-you so much for your donations! Without your kindness and generosity this would not be possible.โ€

  • Technology for First Graders

    Funded Aug 27, 2015

Thank-you so much for your donations! My students absolutely LOVE the tablets!!! They can't get enough of them and they don't even realize that they are playing learning games. We use the tablets everyday and they still can't get enough of them. We have reading games, math games, science and social studies apps. They are awesome and so easy to use. The kids can do it themselves and they troubleshoot any problems themselves also which is great for problem solving skills and building confidence for students who are more hands on and less talkative. These are wonderful I thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for your donation. The smiles I see when they use the tablets is priceless! ๐Ÿ’—โ€

  • Writing Supplies Needed!

    Funded Nov 22, 2013

My students are just beyond excited to be able to paint and use the white boards. They all got a chance to use the water color paints that I bought over the summer, and in January they will begin using the washable paints I have for them. They have mastered taking off the caps and we are working on remembering to put the caps back on. They have practiced writing various words we have learned and have even taken their first spelling test. They LOVE writing with the white board markers and creating their own words.

My students are now inspired by your generosity and want to write more. They want to learn how to read and spell so that they can continue to write words and even sentences for themselves and their families. Thank-you so much for your donations and your kindness.โ€

  • Arts and Crafts Supplies Needed!

    Funded Nov 14, 2013

Thank-you very much for your donation! My students were very excited to see such a large package arrive. When we opened it they could not believe that that "strangers" were nice enough to give money for them to have the supplies they need. One student said, "Wow, that was so nice!".

My students now have their own set of crayons in their pencil boxes that they can use throughout the day. They use the smocks when they paint or use play doh. Although they have tried to use them even when working with crayons. They really like to put them on.

This project has boost the self esteem and confidence of my students. They now know that even strangers care about their education. They know that other people want the best for them and that they deserve to have some things of their own. My students now create beautiful works of art as you will see. Thank-you again!โ€

    With gratitude,

As of right now, I have 20 students in my First Grade classroom, I expect that number to increase as the summer progresses on. The students who attend my school all live in extreme poverty. Many of the homes are boarded up and have no heat or air conditioning. Our school contains grades Pre-school-8th grade. Our school is considered below level in some areas because the students are lacking the enthusiasm to learn. We were only given $50 for classroom supplies. That doesn't even pay for enough pencils for each student for the school year. First Grade is such an important school year for students and a very formative year for them. I want them to enjoy learning with the right supplies they need and deserve.
