  • In Living Color

    Funded Oct 18, 2024

I am writing to express my deepest gratitude for your generous contribution to my DonorsChoose project, In Living Color. Thanks to your support, my classroom has been equipped with a color printer that is already making a meaningful impact on my students' learning experience. Your kindness and commitment to education have provided us with a resource that will enrich our lessons and bring a new level of engagement to my students' work.

As a teacher, I am constantly looking for ways to make learning more interactive, dynamic, and engaging for my students. The addition of a color printer to our classroom opens up so many possibilities. Whether it's printing colorful educational materials to enhance lesson plans, creating vibrant displays to showcase student work, or offering students the opportunity to design their own projects in full color, this printer is a game-changer. It's not just a tool; it's an instrument that will help bring students' ideas and creativity to life in ways that will deepen their understanding and foster a love of learning.

One of the things that excites me the most about having a color printer is the opportunity it gives me to differentiate instruction. Many of my students benefit from visual aids and hands-on activities that are made more impactful with vibrant colors. This resource will allow me to print materials that are visually appealing and help students better connect with the content. For example, in math, where algorithms, model problems, and diagrams are essential for comprehension, having full-color visuals can make abstract concepts much more accessible.

Beyond the academic benefits, the printer will also empower my students to take ownership of their learning. They'll be able to produce their own colorful projects, create illustrated reports, and even design presentations for class. For many of my students, the opportunity to work with high-quality materials in a creative way fosters a sense of pride and accomplishment. It's a wonderful way for them to showcase their individual talents and interests, and it encourages them to take risks in their learning. This printer is not just for me as a teacher; it's for them as future creators, thinkers, and problem-solvers.

I can already see the excitement in my students' eyes as they think about the possibilities of using color in their work. Some students have already begun brainstorming ideas for projects they can create using the printer, and their enthusiasm is contagious. It's a reminder of how powerful small acts of generosity can be in shaping the educational experience of children.

Please know that your donation is making a lasting difference in our classroom. It's giving my students the tools to explore their creativity, express their ideas, and engage with the curriculum in a deeper way. You have truly made a positive impact on their educational journey, and for that, I am forever grateful.

Thank you once again for your incredible support. Your belief in the potential of every student is truly inspiring, and it's because of people like you that my students have access to the resources they need to succeed. I look forward to sharing the positive outcomes of your generosity and to continuing to make the most of this new tool in our classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Farrelly

  • Project Projector

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

When I first took the document camera out of its case I don't think my students were ever so quiet, you could hear a pin drop. They were captivated by a technology they've never seen before, which is hard to do since they are teenagers and a master of technology. The impact of your generous donation has benefited my students in a tremendously. I am able to bring the curriculum to life in a way that I wasn't able to before the technology you provided us, and more importantly, I can present my lessons to meet their diverse learning styles.

The document camera allows me to go over homework in a more efficient manner. I don't waste time rewriting the questions and diagrams on the board. I can also present questions that allow students to actively participate by having them come up to the camera and write on the paper, as opposed to the board. Some of my students, mostly those with IEP's, get anxiety having to come to the board and write on a surface they aren't familiar with.

I love the projector just as much as the document camera. We use it to watch video clips and movies. I like to provide options for my students. This way they can learn to solve mathematical problems using more than one method and allows them to use the strategies they feel is best for them. I use online videos from various resources like Khan Academy and Delta Math to reteach lessons my students didn't receive well when I presented the lesson.

My students and I thank you so much for changing our lives for the better and allowing us to keep up with the times. Your selfless act of kindness really allows the students to see firsthand there are good people in the world.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Farrelly

I would like to reward my students with an end of the year personalized class tee shirt. The Cricut Explore Air 2 Machine will allow me to make customized tee shirts without having to go through an expensive middle man. This machine allows me to personalize and customize, not only tee shirts, but the SIP water bottles they received from NYC DOE this year, and other items we have used in class. They have worked so hard together over the course of this year that we have become a little family. I want my students to have something to keep over time as a reminder that the work we did this year was for a greater good. They might not use the Pythagorean Theorem every day of their lives but they will remember our class and the work we did together. This tee shirt will be their math class tee shirt that bonds them together and when they wear them to school and see each other in the halls, they will be proud.
