Our classroom library is our treasure! Every week my students have the chance to browse through our class library and select the books that have caught their attention and place them in their individual bins. My classroom library is their library- and for most, it's the only library they know. The majority of my students don't have the opportunity or funds to go to a bookstore. Unfortunately, the majority don't own a library card either because their parents have multiple jobs and access to the library is difficult. . Students are always so eager to get their hands in our books. The treasures in my library are housed in small wooden bookshelves - that are splitting, causing easy access to splinters. The wheels no longer support the shelves so most of them no longer have wheels. Several shelves have cracks that I support with masking tape. These shelves were originally built by a former principal over twenty years ago. They have been loved and used and have served their purpose well. I have worked hard over the last twelve years to build my classroom library with a variety of books, bins, and a class carpet that needs to be replaced. Unfortunately, I cannot build bookshelves and while I have gained a few good ones through tag sales, I really need to replace them all. Your contribution to my project will allow me to replace these book shelves as well as provide a colorful carpet. Students will step into our "Class Book Store" and experience what it is like to really go "shopping" for their weekly books. I know how exciting this will be for them... and for me. Our classroom library is our treasure! I want it to look like a treasure. Thank you for your support!
